We have 2 in high school now and we were looking back at their journals that I had them do starting in 3rd grade. We had an amazing time looking at those. We used BJU and in the spelling book they have a journal entry with a question. They did those once a week. We have an account of how they were feeling, accounts of events, likes and dislikes... We laughed at some until we cried and how great to remember what they were like when they were little! Please have your child do one! We have 2 who are going to start this year. We just use a 1 subject wide ruled notebook. They are allowed to draw a picture too. We don't always read them then. It is a good way for them to practice writing. They had to try to write complete sentences, but most of all to think about the question. If you don't have a question have them write about whatever is happening then.
I remember doing a journal in Junior High English class. OMGosh it is funny to look at the trival things that were so big back then. We did have some questions & then given days we could write whatever!!! I love looking at those!!!
We have been journaling for many years now. Ems loves it. I took out my old journals from elementary and let Ems read some. She was laughing so hard at some of them that she wet her pants. Literally!!!! LOL
we are doing journals this yr for the first time, my girls like it. I come up with funny, silly things for them to write about and they have fun..NOw I wonder what they will think about them years from now.
An online journal or blog is a good idea also. Just make sure to have the security settings set so that only approved people can read it. Or, leave it open and allow the world to view. You just might have a budding journalist who gains thousands of followers!
