Twogirls mommy? I am interested in the assignment notebook, was that like the oens they hand out in schools now.. like a kids dayplanner sort of?
Cause I got one for dd, but was thinking maybe this year I could give ds his too so he can keep track of anything he need to get done... I just have to rememer to have him get it out before we are done, he could record what lessons he did, like Math, science, etc, and if he has homework he can write that down, then we can have the fun of showing it to Dh each day too... sort of as a back up to making sure the work got done...
I have a real problem with setting goals and forgetting them, thats one reason I am trying to figure the untimate way to plan and what to plan and what to just not worry about... this thread is being so HELPFUL! I am getting all sorts of ideas!

I am thinking... for History STOW- I will make a plan in more detail for what I will need ... for projects or extra reading...
Second thing -- I will put together a Word, or something Spreadsheet? For a Month to month over view of what I should have done.. for back up reminder to ME!
I could also use that for reminding me that November is a short month cause we take a week for giving thanks. We do feild trips and can plan to have note books just for that week ( staples and Wallys gave me tons of notebooks for such cheap prices this year I can make one solely FEILD TRIP NOTE BOOK! weee!
So I could say put ** Bring FTNB!
Then I can do like I did with Hsorg.com and put together the basic one with Do lesson 1, 2, 3 each day... I can print that up , it has already generated as many days for a easy print to put up on the wall or clip board....
And last choce I am thinking on is my old Daily lesson plan turning it back to Weekly and put important notes on that ... these are the things I am thinking on, I have that one on my computer.
but I print it and it is a check off the work thing for the kids and me.

I have all the way through October set up in HS Tracker. It only took me about 2 hours total, so it was well worth it to me. For our state, I have to track hours, so it made sense to have the assignments in already and just to have enter times. Besides, I also have to work every night, so I can't plan the night before (like I did last year) or even on the weekend since I also have to plan for the Drama classes I teach Mondays.

At at some point over the weekend I really should spend time with DH. lol.

Anyway, for me it's almost a need to plan, instead of just a want.

This year the assignment notebook I got was one from Rainbow Resource, it has a frog on the cover. It has space for 4 assignments each day with a column for a due date. You open it up and it is a two page spread, so she will be able to look at the week without flipping pages. In the past we have just used those composition notebooks that you can buy at WalMart this time of year for 50 cents each.

For SOTW I make a one page lesson per chapter. I include the library books we want to use, the projects that will be done, and what we will do for each lesson. It was wonderful to have done!

I cannot upload the spreadsheet that I made, because it's an Excel file. If you want though, I will gladly email it to you if you want to PM me with your email address so you can see it.

There are 5 tabs, 1 for each 4 quarter, and a 5th for my Science plan.

In each quarter I have the days numbered...I put that day's assignments next, and have cells for grades also, which I put in formulas to figure out the averages for me so reports are even easier.

There's also space for putting in notes for materials I need that week that I need to pick up from the library or grocery store.

okay, I get the idea, so many of y ou are talking about numbered days... I think that is a cool way to keep track of things.. i just got my Math U see in the mail, It has about 30 lessons then tests on top of that.. So I am going to guestimate a lesson a week plus tests. then we can re do what she needs to, but knwoing dd and my own rememberance of Geometry I think we are going to fly through these lessons! it is the fun math !
Thats the only one I had to schedule for her.. and then I just have to pick how often she will do art, and PE.
No Soccer so thats not gonna help ds could play it though.
Gymnastics is her favorite but... we really wanted to play soccer. Oh well still have that to figure out too!
Hey I found another week of summer! haha,
So.... MUS I have to really Not plan out I heard , or read, too untill I see how she does, that is hard for me I think... I keep lookign at the teacher books trying to figure out that one! HA!

Re the two page spread thing, I think I have seen those.. I think I may use a small one from Wallys for him to use, ds11... his STOW has not gotten here yet, but I like the way you sound like you have it set up 2girlsmommy... How many chapters are in it?
I want to get it , things are coming in so often the UPS guy has a special nock! LOL He said heres some more for you! I said " theres more coming so see ya! " he laughed and said okay! how fun!

I was just writing an article about this very subject! lol We haven't used a planner since the 2nd year of homeschooling (we're in our 8th.) We're so 'all over the board' in interests. We may get into a subject and want to explore if further OR find we don't like it so we want to go on to something else.. It's a waste of my time to plan such and such amount of time on a subject and then we go more or less on it. Messes up my plan. I know what is coming in the books next and its been working so far. The only real planning I do is counting. We have say 10 chapters in a textbook, we know we have about 3- 3 1/2 weeks to complete the chapter. This is probably why I don't buy whole curriculums. We piece meal, and buy used mostly. If we want to change, I'm not fully invested money wise into something. May not work for others this way, but so far it does for us.

well that was a lot of helP!
Okay, what I have kind of in my books ( computer program) is that we do Math, English, Science, Art History,
In each book I have it figured what I am going to do for each days work, for Math and English,
Havent gotten are or History but someone here said something about STOW how many days per chapter etc... So I guess I can do that eh? I dont have ARt yet but its going to be once or twice a week

I will sos spanish so its already assigned through that.
maybe I dont need to write it all down, I could try a day planner method, with store bought calendar type of thing do the weekly kind of , I we are on such and such a lesson, should take so many days till break...
Math has two books so I try to finish one by January, and one by June.. I can do that if we work it right.. So I don't really HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVe to have it all down any more than I have in my online set up right?
I just put on it to do required lessons for that day Lol

I have no game plan. Yep nothing not even a schedule of other regular stuff. We are just going to take one day at a time.

see I can't do that, my melencholy side tells me PLAN PLAN PLAN< my sanquine side says AW just wing it! but when I Try winging it messes up and we don't finish our books, I tried winging last year after the first 6 weeks of solid planning... I don't know what happened but after thanksgiving I started back on time, with out a planner... I got to January okay and we did not get back on after christmas, we went on and off maybe we will do this, lets work on the main two classes, etc etc, so dh got me back to my timed school schedule.. with SOS it will tell me how much time she uses to do it, so I can judge from that how much time to let her work on each class... most liekly she will do the days lesson on that day and then some if shes enjoying it .. that is why I will need to check time used.
maybe I should wait and see how long we are doing stuff, then make my weekly basic schedule with time and all .. I want to do a bright and colorful poster board with it this year.. Ds 11 needs organization to work.
