How much do people charge per hour for kid-sitting nowadays? Say for a set of 7-yr-old twins? Trying to figure it out. This would be from 5:30 a.m. Friday, all day (including homeschooling them during the school year), overnight, all Saturday, until 8 to 10 p.m.

    Thanks for your help.

For so many consecutive hours, and the fact that pick-up time might vary, I'd tend to forget about hourly charges and just settle on one set amount per week or per month.

What is your suggested rate (consider that this would mean giving up family time every other weekend). Thanks! :)

I wouldn't know..... However, my dd just recently made an agreement with a friend to babysit for the rest of the summer for $80/wk. In the fall, these 2 kids would be going back to ps, so, only summer. It was to be either 4 or 5 days a week, all day (like 7 or 8 am to like 6pm or so? the mom packs the lumch because they're picky eaters), depending on how the mom's day off fell each week. Whether it was 4 or 5, it was still $80/wk. Then because of family health problems and having to be off to take care of hubby (38 yo and possible stroke issues) and child (severe kidney problem) both, the mom had to resign her job with the idea that if she resigned she might be able to get hired back later when the health issues have been resolved. So she won't be needing babysitter services anyway right now. So based on that -- maybe $40-60 a weekend?

Rachael is usually paid per job, rather than by the hour. She usually settles with whatever she is given, but has never had a problem with that. But if you were to pay an hourly rate...even a very low $3/hr...it would be over $100.

I have over 19 yrs. of childcare experience, including daycare and preschool.

The mom is a nurse, but a single mom.

(trying to give all the factors I can :) )

I do daycare in my home, and when I have children old enough I do some curricula for them as well as my own kids and have them all participate together.

Usually I have kids from 7:15 in the morning until 4:45 in the evening. I Don't charge per hour/day I usually do per week. $75 for 4 or 5 days (which is just right for my small town. I assume bigger cities will charge more.) and for an added sibling it's an extra $15. So every Friday parents will hand me a check for $75 for one child, and $90 for two children.

I agree for as many hours as your doing it, you will have to do it by day or week b/c doing hours will be difficult to track. Don't forget, you will have to prove this income at tax time, so buy recipt booklets and write down every expense for curricula and so on. :)

When I was a nanny-I made $360/wk under the table-but that was for a straight 40 hr wk...no hs required and a baby - older kids means more $, and add in schooling requirement and you're looking at $75 - $100 because there's 2 kids.

I would say, because it's also overnight-so a straight shot that would be approx 20-25 hours. $8/hr would be equivalent to:$192..., $5 hr would be $125.

Personally, I think a fair amount given the overnight, the hs, 2 kids, and the odd pickups would be a straight $150 (to start). Childcare these days is pretty expensive and I think you would be giving her a seriously good deal-which I get the impression is what you kinda want to do, while being fair.

Then again, it really depends the kind of area you live in-I couldn't get away with anything less than $200 easily here-but I live in a very expensive area.

Lastly, I wouldn't chart the hours. Just do a straight amount. Um, and I would do it under the table unless it's gonna be over $3500 for the year-unless she's gonna report she paid you. Remember, you WILL have to pay taxes on whatever she pays you, if its over $3500/yr(Jan-Jan).
    Hope that helps.

well I think it depends on how close you are to this lady. Is she your best friend? Are you doing this to help her or you? Then figure it out from there. If you are helping her, you might not want to change so much.

I used to babysit a little girl for the weekend before I had children. Her mother dropped her off at 6am Friday and picked her up 8pm Sunday I fed her all meals, and took her to church with my husband and I, as well as taking her on any other errands I had to run. I also took her to her dance class on Saturday afternoon. The mother paid me 200.00 for the weekend. I would think that 200.00 would be a fair price for what the mother is asking you to do, especially considering the fact that IF she could find a daycare to do what she is wanting it would be twice that amount.

My dd is watching a 10 year old this summer 6:15am - 4:30 m-f and she is getting $135 per week. We feel it is a fair also we know that the dad is struggling and we are glad that dd can help plus get the benefit of being paid. I do know that babysitting and daycare are different rates.
