So I am having the hardest time trying to figure out a science project for my daughter who is 5yrs old but doing 1st grade work. She wants to do a project on something to do with seashells, and I am having issues trying to find information that she will understand, plus will be able to present to her class. I have researched how shells are made, but I can't see my daughter presenting a project and using words like Calcium Carbonate  My daughter has a collection of shells that we were planning on using as part of the display, but thats about as far as I have gotten I need a project idea that will be within her abilities for her to present to the class but still stretch her knowledge of shells. The project is not due till the middle of Feb. so we have lots of time to learn about the subject I am completely lost on this one. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks
What about going into which kinds of sea life live in which shells? Here's a 1st grade science fair project specifically related to it [you'll scroll down to find the particulars]: http://www.scienceprojectlab.com/1st-grade-science-fair-projects.html Oh, and here's one that goes into the composition of shells: http://www.sciencefairadventure.com/ProjectDetail.aspx?ProjectID=172
How about sorting them and creating a display with a picture of the type of animal each shell comes from?
I usually start projects out by asking the student what questions they would like to have answered. A project tends to present itself by going about it from that angle.
You could also talk about how shells are broken down into sand over time by erosion, and help create our beaches...
Thanks for all the tips. I think I am going to take a little from each tip to make a project that covers everything, while still being age appropriate. Thanks for all the help
