I will recommend a couple of my favorite resources.
Here is a link to see The Three R's. I would recommend purchasing The Three R's no matter what other program or materials you use.

    The Three R's
    Now all in one book!
    A Home Start in Reading
    A Strong Start in Language
    An Easy Start in Arithmetic

Three resources in one – READING, WRITING, and ARITHMETIC! Learn how to take the mystery out of teaching the early grades with this practical, down-to-earth guidebook from Ruth Beechick. The book is divided into three sections that are tabbed for easy reference. The READING section tells how and when to begin phonics, and how to develop comprehension skills. The LANGUAGE section shows how to develop written language skills naturally, in the same way children learn oral language. The ARITHMETIC section explains how to teach understanding of math concepts, and not just memorization of facts.

Bonus: A removable 2-sided wall chart for phonics and arithmetic.

    Now Available!
    128 pages, 6" x 9" Paperback, Grades K-3
    ISBN-13: 978-0-88062-074-1
    ISBN-10: 0-88062-074-9
    List Price . . . . . $12.00 US

Here is a review of my favorite phonics program.

I purchased it used for a big discount on a homeschool classified ad.

Today Play N' Talk is for sale on Ebay. Here is a link to the ad. I have not purchased anything from this particular seller so I cannot make a recommendation.

    Melinda,
Take a look at this. I wish I had known about this book when I first began homeschooling. I first found it a few years ago and it is a great help. It will help you to understand how to homeschool in a low stress effective way.

We switched to Five in a Row midway through K this past year. DD wasn't real impressed with the workbook approach. The manual was around $20 and you can get most of the children's books from your local library. We have LOVED it! We'll be doing it for quite some time I'm sure. You do have to supplement the three R's though. We use A Beka for that. Mainly just because that's what we started with and that's what we're all used to right now. But if you want to check into FIAR, here's the site.

www.fiveinarow.com and that will give you more detail.
