Recently I came across "KONOS" curriculum. It sounds interesting, but as I am finding out not all curriculum's are what they are cracked up to be. I do base my homeschooling off of textbooks, but do not limit my self to just those. I am looking for something I can add to my curriculum to make it even more hands on and fun for my child. Does this "KONOS" offer this? The price was very inexpensive compared to what I spend on my complete curriculum sets. I would get 8 years worth of material for only about $550 which is an great deal. But is this just a waist of money? Any opinions would be great.
I think Marylyn uses KONOS with her girls! She's the one to direct these questions to. I've never used it.
The people at KONOS are extremely nice to talk to. I actually called with one question, and the guy spent an hour with me on the phone. He said that the total cost is something like $210.00 for the year for the one in the box because you need the timeline and stuff. (I, at that point, was going to use it for this year.) He said that, after talking to me, I could probably just purchase the KONOS volume, the Compass book, and audio tapes for about 100.00 or so, and the volume I lasts a long time because it has several character traits in it. (He said this because I like setting the schedule for our day and stuff.) I ended up not using it, only because I wanted more of a historical approach to my unit studies (starting from beginning and going from there). After you get feedback from this site give them a call. I was surprised how interested they were in how much money I had alloted for the year, how many kids I had, how they learned best, and it went on and on.
I'm not using it, but I thought hard about it. I really like the spirit of it, and I've heard Jessica and Wade Hulcy speak and I really liked them, too. I decided in the end, though, that it was the wrong "style" for my girls - and for me, too. KONOS has a Yahoo group that you can join for free. There are lots of very friendly helpful folks in there who are happy to answer your questions about the curriculum. Just go to their website (www.konos.com) and look for the "get our website, join our Yahoo group" button at the bottom of the page.
