Being new to homeschool the concept and use of lapbooks is pretty new to me. Can anyone recommend good site for them (paid and free) and give me some advice on how to use them and how they work for you?
Best site for lapbooks (imo): http://www.homeschoolshare.com/Lapbooks_at_HSS.php It's free and broken down by grades or topics. When we do them, we just discuss each activity as we're working on it. I don't do the suggested lesson plan on the page because we mostly just do lapbooks for fun. I put them on the bookshelf when we're done and they play with them when they want to.
I second Katherine. Homeschool share has wonderful lapbooks and unit studies. You can print what projects you want so if we are studying on a certain subject I will pull different projects from several lapbooks or unit studies on the site and come up with my own lesson.
I also really like the Hands of a Child lapbooks. They are for the most part self contained. They have everything you really need in them including the reading to go with what you are learning.
If I'm working in reverse (meaning I pick a topic then go looking for a lapbook instead of finding a lapbook and deciding to do it), I usually just search CurrClick. Sometimes I get enough good ideas from looking at the previews that I figure out how to make my own without buying one. I use a lot of the templates at Lapbooklessons.com
www.lapbooklessons.com http://homeschoolhelperonline.com/lapbooks.htm are also pretty good. I find I like to mixed an match the materials to make fuller lapbooks
Thanks everyone... I also found A Journey Through Learning is having a 'facebook party' on their blog. You go to the blog, comment on posts to enter to win freebies.... I am also thinking of creating some lapbooks for specific topics I can't find online.
I have made our lapbooks in the past. I like them much better that lapbooks that are purchased. This isn't to say that buying lapbooks isn't a good idea. I liked tapering the lapbook to our specifications.
