thats cool Vantage, I just came up with using extra work sheets for enhancing what they are learning and still keeping in the time slots that I created for my kids. Some days kids finish work early so insteaf of having idle minds I am creating a job card supply and they will choose which job they want to do, these will vary from writing practice to math drills to creative crafts and games... all related to their school lessons.
I was just searching the site for lesson plan pages and really looked at the Donna Young site for the first time. I am excited because she has some tracing pages I think ds is really going to like. I got him a wipe-off tracing book last week and he thought it was the best. I was kind of surprised!
This year I just picked up a lesson plan book at Office Depot. I figured in the time that I was printing and copying sheets out last year I spent a good 15-20 dollars on that alone so why not just buy one I REALLY like haha. It was 12 bucks, plenty of room to right and there are 7 subjects for each day plus room for notes at the bottom and in the back. Last year I used donnayoung.com.
Yeah, I think when he is older I will definitely just buy a plan book. Right now we are just going to be doing a few simple things, so I am just thinking I will write them down so I am not reinventing the wheel the next time we have a kid! : )
I don't actually. Did someone say this already? If so, I'm sorry but I'll throw my 2 cents in. ;-) I don't lesson plan bc I find it restrictive. I do have a general outline of where I'm going and then I allow the children to examine something more closely as desired and applicable. I know that if I did lesson plans, with objectives and activities that I would feel obligated to follow it and I think that would really hinder the kids' education and natural curiosity. What I do do, and would do even if I weren't required to do so by state, is have a general set of objectives for each quarter. So for example, in reading my dd will do about 20 book 'enrichment investigations' (I HATE book reports) this year. That means she has to read about 5 books per quarter and then I know that she has to do roughly 1 book per two weeks. So we stay on track that way. I have a blank calendar that I keep track of work done and the dates it was done on (attendance). When my kids get to high school, I will not do lesson plans but will do syllabi with objectives and resources and keep attendance the same way I always have except I'll have to keep track of hours as well. HTH
Sneaky, what would you put in your sylabus say for English 10?( now who's the sneaky mom?) I Am planning a basics of what to do each day, how much time to spend on it and required items for projects to be in sort of a MSWOrks Spreadsheet kind of format, that I can sent to my dd and ds so its on thier users andmine, I am trying to find a way to make it so they can check it as they do it, highlight or whatever, and then I can see that they at least read it over.... I have in the past done daily lesson plans, my dh made them up for me. And I changed it slightly to do my Daily Lessons-a list of courses, and I did each morning write it up so it was flexible... I want to create an AT A GLANCE Basics, with supplies needed so they have them on hand and we know what we needed to replace etc. remembering my two are 5th and 9/10th this year...
You're too funny but that information will cost you! Okay just kidding. I have twins hanging out on the bunk bed and that question is too long to answer. But later tonight when all is silent and peaceful I'll look over your want list and see if I can play with a template for you. ;-)
I made my own planner using http://www.oklahomahomeschool.com/forms.html#okhsforms and donnayoung.org and I like the reportcards at justmommies.com
I got my gradebook pages from here: http://www.busyteacherscafe.com/wspages/forms.htm and there is alot of great stuff here too http://www.geocities.com/homeschoolforms/page4.html
thanks folks these gave me a new store in my town I did not know abotu that is supposed to sell some fo these books I am finding! IM Off to check it out! ... woops forgot to send this one so here I am back its someones home Lol not a store Just distribution or something.
For the past four years, I have made my own planner. This year I purchased one to see if it is simpler. I payed $10.00 for it. Patty
I purchased it at a teachers supply store called Club Ed. They have a lot of things for homeschoolers too. Patty
When I write/adapt my unit studies, I often allow choices to solve this problem. For example, today we were studying weather. We read the stimulus material together then there were options for them to choose to investigate either storms or rain more closely, with associated activities/experiments/reading to do. That way they get to choose what they are interested in, and follow thier natural curiosity. If there is no interest/curiosity, then I haven't done my job properly! (Pleased to add that this hardl;y ever happens )
That's pretty much what we do too. . .I just don't write full blown out lesson plans for them. But I don't do unit studies either.
hmmmmm never heard of that store Patty, going to do a search and see what I can find... thanks alot..
I went ahead and bought one, too, for $6.99. For me it works great because there is lots of space and it's all bound and there together. I tried using printed off ones, but I guess I was just too used to the plan book!
So far, I like it. It has scriptures at the top to start off the school day. Just like the homemade planner, nothing is written in stone so we can change as we go. There are certain subjects that I have written in the book already, like math, reading, and subjects that have to be done. The others we can play with. It will most likely end up looking like the other planners by the end of the year; with chicken scratch all over it because we change things as we go. But so far so good! Thanks for asking. Patty
