aball, i was thinking that same thing. in fact my dc have never been exposed to the stigma of lice, so they arent concerned at all. the only thing they know is from that episode, they both brought it up, bc that is the only time they have even heard of it, lol.

man our week is still going bad, :( i found more lice on her tues night. cant treat again till sunday, so i was adviced to put vaseline in her hair, and leave overnight with a cap on. i did so, and am fairly certain the lice are gone for now, but she was sick yesterday with fever and vomitting and overall tiredness, then today, i couldnt get the vaseline out of her hair at all. it was a thick layer of slime. i tried dish soap, baking soda, cornstarch, lemon juice, vinegar, everything i could think of , finally resorted to carefully slathering with goo gone. thank god for goo gone!! it came out, i soaked it, then washed with dish soap, soaked it then washed with dish soap, then reg shampoo, then conditioner. that girl has had her hair washed 20x now so i guess shes clean and no sign of lice or nits tonight. what a mess!! hopefully we wont have to do this again!

Cooking oil or mayonaise on the hair for 30 minutes or so kills them, also. It suffocates them. It won't kill the nits, just the already hatched ones.
I would do everyone's bedding, all upholstery, all clothes, all stuffed animals, and any carpet. I would also, at the very least, oil everyone's head. It will kill any that are there & help prevent them from getting them.

Why can't you treat again until Sunday? We were treating every two or three days for a while. What's happened is that you killed the adults, and then two or three days later, more hatched. Not fun, but that's how it goes. I REALLY encourage you to get one of those electronic nit combs, and comb through their hair with it several times a day. That way, you get any that are newly hatched and kill them with the comb.

Mama, it took me three months to get rid of it in my girls. NOTHING over the counter worked (and I was picking every night for HOURS!!). I finally got something from the health food store with tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil in it. Worked GREAT!! You will still have to pick out the nits, but it wasn't long before they were all gone. Get a metal fine tooth comb-the plastic ones don't work. And sometimes you just have to use your hands to pick them out. My girls got it a second time exactly a year later, and we got rid of it easily that time. I've heard that putting a couple of drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo will keep them away.

ok, i was told by my ped, and the box also said this, not to treat more often than every 7 days, bc it is a pesticide and it could hurt them. i did get the really good metal toothed nit comb and i bought what jackie was recommending, the electric zapper comb. now that i finally got most of the vaseline out, i can use them again. i have been picking through every night, and most of the time, i just use my finger nails to remove the ones i see, i go through each little section about a centimeter at a time, and then comb through with the metal comb and the zapper comb. i have washed everything twice along with vaccumming all furniture beds, rugs, spraying some stuff, etc. oh well, i will keep trying!

You're doing everything humanly possible. Unfortunately, it takes TIME. Remember to also change your sweeper bags! And know that this WILL pass, and (hoopefully) you'll be done with it forever. (That's not a promise; we've had it more than once, and this last time we've NO IDEA where it came from!)

No idea. First, empty it OUTSIDE, and I'm betting very hot bleach water wouldn't hurt.

Yes empty it outside, and bleach it! Also you could rub tea tree oil in the inside of it this way if any get in there they will die from the oil.
