:?: Does anyone have a list or a link to a list of "living books" sorted according to a timeline or listed by time period?

I would like to plan some reading and maybe unit studies based on living books to align with our history program and got to wondering if such a list has been already put together.

Classical Christian Homeschooling has lists by level (grammar is 1st - 4th grades, logic is 5th - 8th grades, and dialectic is 9th - 12th grades) and then by subject. Click on the level to the left, then on the individual subject, and then on "curriculum" for that subject. Scroll down to find the list of recommended living books. CCM is sort of a cross between Well Trained Mind classical and Charlotte Mason methods... leaning more towards the classical side of course, but with living books and nature studies? LOL

This website by an AOL member about the Twaddle-Free method of Charlotte Mason has an excellent levelled list of living books, complete with links to them on Amazon where available.

THANKYOU! Now I know! :D I like that phrase "Twaddle-free"! I can now walk around saying it, and if someone asks what I'm saying, I can tell them! Okay, I must be tired!

    Thanks again...

Dalyn - the Classical Christian link doesn't work for me.
Thank you for the link to the Twaddle Free lists.

What I am actually looking for is books listed according to time period (i.e. 1800s, etc) Has anyone seen such a list?

www.amblesideonlin.org has great book lists completely twaddle free for each age level. You need to go to the appropriate age level and then you will see specific books for history, science, literature or "free reading". You will need to check at the top of each page what time period that year is covering.

The link I posted lists according to periods...renaisance, reformation, colonial, WWI, etc.

Tiffany, you mis-typed the link! Left out an "e"! Anyone wanting to get there, try this:

Sorry gals - the new "insert link" method adds its own http, and the links I copied had one too, so they didn't work. Here's the CCH one again!

    Classical Christian Homeschooling

To find it by time period (Ancients, Medieval, Renessaince, or Modern... and she breaks the actual years down on the main HISTORY page), click on the age group first (all four time periods are repeated in the three age levels) and then on History, then on Curriculum.

If that's confusing, let me know how old your kid(s) are and what time frame you need and I can link you directly. :)
Sorry my links didn't work properly!

Another useful resource might be the free CM Bookfinder over at the Simply Charlotte Mason web site. It let's you search for books based on time period as well as some other interesting things.

You can try it at: apps.simplycharlottemason.com

(I'm new here so I don't know if I can post links yet. So if that doesn't work you can just Google for it.)

No, you can't post links until you get to 50 posts. But I can try copying and pasting what you DID post! Thanks!!!

OK! I'm thanking you, but my kids are not, lol!!! I found two different books on there to check and see if our library has!!! Thanks!!!

Yeah! I was hunting around and found a site that has a full list of books (with search capabilities) sorted according to historical period. I can't post URLs yet, but the name of the site is abookintime.
