So, ds (7) and I read a Magic Tree House book this week and it was the first time he was interested in actually reading from a chapter book. He loves to hear me read them, and listen to them on CD from the library, but has always been intimidated to read chapter books himself (even with my help). He decided this week that he could do it and we did. This led me to look for books from our library and finally decide that I am going to order the whole series from scholastic as our reading material for this next school year. I have already determined that he is more of the type that has to have a book of interest or he is miserable. Back to the point I came to make...I went searching for materials tonight that we could use this upcoming year to go with the book series. Well, lo and behold, there is a www.magictreehouse.com that has teacher's guides to go with each book and printable pages like word searches, cross word puzzles, etc. There are connections to different subjects as well. And, for the kids, there is a passport where they can go in and pick the book they read, answer questions, and get a stamp in thier virtual passport. So, in my mind, this year is going to be so fun incorporating our reading with other stuff and in a way that ds is going to love it. I'll let you know in a few months if it will be reality, or if it flops .
Thank you so much for posting that. My ds loves reading their books and that will be great for me to use for him!!
I have gotten about 20 of these from Good Wills. Check them out before you buy them from scholastic! I get them for .50 each, which totals out to about 10 for all the ones that I have. My 7 yo DS loves them too. Good luck!
Good idea about Goodwill. I would have never thought of that. Ds will be getting his this summer at the library. He has already picked out a handful of them.
