Has anyone used this math curriculum before? I have a "gifted" upcoming 5th grader (tested AIG in reading, but not math, in ps) and he struggles with math. One of the reasons we pulled him from ps to homeschool was due to math. Last year we did very little math because it frustrated him so much but this year we have to really concentrate on it. I tried A Beka, SOS & Time4Learning maths for him last year. He gets so frustrated by multiplication & division, then I get so frustrated by him "not getting it"... not good.

Anyway, I'm really leaning towards Mastering Mathematics for this year. I like that it isn't "graded" and he has to master each concept before he is introduced to a new concept. I'm encouraged by the reviews I've seen for it, especially on the "learninghouse" website. I also like that I can buy it and use it for both of my hs kids. DS won't need to do the addition that DD will need, so I can use the addition/subtraction workbooks for her, and the mult/div workbooks for him.

Has anyone on here used it? I'd appreciate comments, either positive or negative, about it.

I haven't heard of that particular math program. I have heard that Singapore math is a great curric. for math mastery (versus spiral type curric.).

I hope you find what works!

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm planning to. I'm going to use it with ds. I'll be getting it next year (around Feb). Like you, I like the fact that they get to master each concept completely before moving on, move at their own pace, etc. Plus, considering it's 1st-6th grade math, it's a great price. Sorry I can't be of any help since we haven't gotten it yet, but I'd love to hear what you think of it once you've started it.
So far, I haven't met anyone who's used it. In fact, everywhere I've asked about it, most people have never heard of it! But, it does sound like a great program.

You may like to look at Horizon too, it is a good way to go through math with review as you go.. my ds10 decided this year that Math is his favorite subject after a struggle with 4th. he is not "gifted" but a smart kid who realised that math is much easier when done in small increments.

I found this quote on Amazon. Funny, I had already ordered (and have received) LLATL for my son, before seeing this.

I'll be ordering MM soon and will update on what I think about it. Praying that it will be the right one for us!

    Has anyone ever used Calculadder?
