I've used with with both my girls for the last 3 years and today I just placed my order for next year. I have used Primer, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta and just ordered Alpha. I love it and my youngest has really just breezed through it and learned a lot. I don't have any "cons". I like that it is hands on and visual.
its all pros here, dd loves it! So much she wants to go on to the last level of math she was in and do another years lessons onher own because she wants to really get it! And it was ALGEBRA!
We just started using MUS a couple of months ago and both my kids love it. DD wishes I would've started using it much earlier with her.
This is my ONLY curriculum choice that I'm not second guessing.. I love it, the kids LOVE it, and we are ALL happy!! I have found NO downsides to it. Angela
we are using the Primer right now. my son seems to like it. i like the building part with the blocks. the manipulaitives are great to "see" math. i like it better than just doing books with worksheets in them and no manipulatives. Math-us-see explains how to teach and shows you how to teach with the DVD that comes with it. it is seperated inot lessons. i like it because theni know how to present to my son, new concepts and he watches the dvd to. my diaghter wants to try it but she is not quite ready. she alwasy wnats to do what brother is doing
Not to hijack thiis thread but since it is MUS-- and somene mentioned the blocks manipulatives--- For Algebra 1 has anyone done that high of level in it yet and did you use the blocks or can I make my own with paper? Does it have to be 3d in other words?
It depends on the student, dd went through hers in less than half the year. both are long enough to take almost a year but it depends, dd chose to do everything, all the work sheets and everything but now she realises she could have finished way earlier if she had only done the practice work as needed.
Totally depends. Last year my oldest hated math and took forever and ended up having to finish it over the summer. This year she finished the book at the begining of March. I stretched it out a lot with my youngest. If I wouldn't have she would have been done with the Primer in three months. She is going to work over the summer and by fall when she would officially be going into 1st grade she will be on a 2nd grade level for math.
My kids took over a year to complete their books. But we were just beginning homeschool and took it slow. We didn't do math everyday and took a lot of time off. We are almost through our second year of homeschool and they just started their second year in MUS. They should be done by August since we are schooling through the summer. Angela
(I haven't read the other responses yet)...I have never met a middle of the roader on this question. I find folks who LOVE Math U See, and ones who don't love it. WE tried Alpha with my son b/c I thought it would work for him. It was his style...but he got bored with it b/c it was mastery based and when he couldn't master it and couldn't move on it frustrated him. And when we did move on and he wasn't really ready, he got even more frustrated. I switched over to AOP Lifepacs in January and he's doing GREAT and he loves them. Even learned carrying today with very little help. Amazed me. Anyway...I might end up having an Alpha Set for sale, I haven't quite decided to give up or save it and try with my youngest.
