...when I joined here, didn't the intro thing say that new members were NOT permitted to put links in their signatures?
yes, that is right, they have to have so many post before they can. I think it's like 50. But, I do know Aball would know your answer. You might want to pm her if you don't get answer soon.
You need to contact Amanda.......I was trying to find the "rules" but couldn't find that part of it, maybe when the update happened things changed, I'm not sure.
This is what the rules say: We don't mind hearing about other member's personal websites or blogs, HOWEVER, please build up your credibility and show us you are here to share with us before you start posting links to yourself or your friends. New members do not have privileges to post links or use a signature right away. If you try to circumvent the forum's system for blocking links, it will be seen as suspicious and you may be banned from using the forum. After you posted for a while, you will have access to posting links, and later you'll have the ability to add a signature. Right now, we do not have restrictions on links in signatures. We welcome you to share links to your homeschool blog or other personal sites in your signature. Even after you are able to post links, please note it is not appropriate to include your link or announce it in multiple posts throughout the forum. We haven't had anyone abusing this so far, but hopefully we won't have to further address the issue. However, it looks to be out of date, because newbies are posting siggies and ones with links. If the rules were read, they'd know it isn't technically allowed, but...
I seem to remember I had to make a certain post count (30 maybe?) before the system would allow me to post links. There was no time limit. At the business forums I moderate, the limit is 15, and every night I have to delete countless "welcome to the forum" responses to every introduction message in sight! Almost always, the 16th post includes links to the member's website, links in their signatures, and so on.
So has anyone said anything to Amanda? I'm betting it got messed up when the upgrades were done. And I think it DOES need to be corrected.
Since two of you quote 50, I'm sure you're right and I was wrong about 30. As I remember, I was unable to add a link using the 'link' icon in the editor box (the little globe with a chain link in front of it). If you simply type a URL address in the text, though, the system converts it automatically into an active link. I'm guessing, but maybe this is how you can add links before reaching 50 posts.
Since I just joined in the past month I remember EXACTLY what it said...and it said 50 posts or 30 days like someone previously stated....It's just clear to me certain "self promoting" people didn't read it. It's not my place to say anything, since I just recently joined as well...it just irritates me that I didn't even put my name in my signature, yet others promote their business every chance they get.
i'm a newbie and it gives me error messages if I try to post a link, so the system is working on my account.. I haven't tried a siggie though.
