Ds will be starting 1st grade next year. He will be 5.5. He is reading pretty well at this point. Probably upper kindergarten level? We have used Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons this far but I want to move into a different program for next year once he has finished TYCTR. I am considering the McRuffy Language arts program for 1st grade or All About Reading.. Either level 1 or 2.. I need to look more into that and then I plan to move into All about spelling. Has anyone used either of these programs? Any pros or cons?

Well, I'm a big McRuffy fan. I haven't used their grade 1 LA, and only partially used their K level, but it was good! I just went in a different direction. I have not looked at AAR ever so I'm not sure what it is, but I was under the impression it was just phonics??? McRuffy is an all inclusive LA, not just reading or phonics.
