I have a little freezer in my rv so cooking that way wouldn't work right now.

We barely have rooom in our freezer now, so we couldn't do that either. Also, our power goes off in the winter and fall off and on. Last time it was off for 20 hours, and has been off for much longer for some.

What happens to the stuff in the freezer if the power goes out? If we could afford a freezer AND a generator, that would probably be the best bet. ;)

I just fed the dgc oatmeal and toast for lunch. It was really snowing out and it seemed like the perfect lunch. Dgd is down for a nap and dgs went back to his room to finish his school - 2 subject left and he can go out and play in the snow.

I decided that I was going to inventory my food cupboards and freezers and then plan meals around what I already have. Once I use up what's there, I will menu plan and then go grocery shopping. I'm sure there is enough for about a month -give or take some perishables.

My DH does the grocery shopping, he buys things on sale sometimes that doesn't make sense...... we have 2 boxes of stuffing mix....... it was on sale for $1 but we don't eat stuffing. He bought mexican corn bread mix 2 for $1, but the kids don't care for spicy. and at one time we had about 5 bottles of ranch dressing........ I think it was on sale 2 weeks in a row!;)

Any one else with stuff in their cubbord/pantry that your waiting for the next food drive to give away?

When the boys came to stay with us, I took them to the store to show me what they liked, the youngest, 8, decided that he liked abc vegetable soup. I bought about 12 cans of it and finally took it to the neighbors yesterday for them to have. I like homemade veg. soup :)

Always! I tend to buy more than one of something if it is on sale. Or of course if it is a BOGO free. Then when it turns out my kids won't eat it, I am stuck with it.

I keep all my receipts! LOL! I just took a bunch of stuff back to Aldi that I didn't use! :) Bought diapers! :D It was funny...I returned $6.40 and spent $5.99 on diapers! LOL :D

I got to go to the deli today! YEAH. FREEZER IS FULL! And I don't even have my ground chicken yet.

We're hitting the farmer's market over the weekend. I was going to go somewhere with a friend tomorrow to get a bunch of veggies - but she can't go and it's not the kind of place you can do alone. Oh well....(well, alone with 3 kids anyway!)

Wow! Krista I didn't now you could keep your receipts that long and return them. How long can you keep a item before you can't return it?

:) LOL! I can't believe I had the receipts either. One of the receipts was from November, one was December, so they weren't ancient. But, they've never given me a problem if I have had the receipt. The guy didn't even check to see that ALL the items were there, just perused it and said "okay, no problem" and gave me the cash. That is one thing I like about Aldi. And our Aldi actually has some good fresh stuff & veggies and stuff.

The veggies at our Aldi's look like they came out of a dumpster! Over ripe and on the verge of rotting!

The Aldi's where I live has great produce and great products. Well, the produce looks good...I only bought a few things, I normally buy produce at a local store which has the best at the best prices. Some Aldi stores I have heard are pretty gross though. The Aldi I go to is in a nice area of town so maybe that makes a difference.

I have heard that Aldi's brands are the exact same as national brands. I read that Aldi's buys so much cereal from Kellog's that Kellog's does not refuse to put the Aldi name on it. Now, I cannot say that is true. However, I will say that Aldi's brands beat Meijer off brands and some Kroger's also.

    another crockpot recipe

Hi, I just found this, its a little like my enchalada recipe. But a lot easier.

    ~The Most Awesome Burritos
    (in a crock pot]~

3 lb. beef roast (I usually get a top or bottom round)
1 packet Ortega taco seasoning (or your favorite)
2-15 oz. cans diced tomatoes with green chilies (or jalapeƱos) (Ro-tel)
    1 t. pepper
    1-2 T. oil

Trim roast of excess fat. Brown roast in oil on all sides. Transfer to crock pot. Sprinkle seasoning and pepper over the meat, turning it to coat all sides.

    Top with diced tomatoes.

    Cook on low 8 hours.

Shred beef with forks and cook another hour or so. Serve on warmed whole wheat or flour tortillas with your favorite shredded cheese and sour cream.

These are so awesome that you'll never go back to ground beef burritos again!

oh, and Deena, I didn't forget you last night I saw this recipe I want to coppy for you in a book I was looking at. Its for sqash with apples and raisins.

I made french onion soup last night and it was great! My dh loved it and asked, " have you made this recipe before?" I said, "I didn't use a recipe." LOL. Hopefully I will be able to duplicate it. I know what I did but a few things I didn't even measure. I also made bread. I forgot to buy a baguette for the soup so I just made it instead. That's ok, I enjoy making bread.

Tonight, I think I am going to make it another breakfast night. Seems like lately, that is the traditional Wednesday night thing. lol. Wednesday's are AWANA so we are rushed.

Jackie, you have to find out what day the produce comes in. If you get it when it comes in, the produce is great. I've seen both good and bad at our Aldi's.

I love french onion soup. MMMMM. Dh don't like any soup except Lipton's noodle soup - Ugh!!! I miss out on so much that I could be making. I think I 'm going to start making what I want for everybody except my dh and then make him what he wants. I get so tired of the same old thing. You all have such great recipes. I will start to copy them and try them out on the rest of the family.

Yes, Aldi produce is so touch and go....if you don't have a good store, it's usually not good.

Our Aldi's manager is really great. I talked to him one day about when certain deliveries were. I time my trips so I go on a Thursday because they get their dairy and produce deliveries on Weds night, and it's all stocked by Thursday mid day when I go. I get the freshest stuff that way. Our Aldi has the best produce prices in town 9 times out of 10. VERY OCCASIONALY Acme (owned by Albertsons) will have a sale on something. For example - Romaine Hearts 3 packs are usually 1.49 to $1.79 at Aldi - the most I EVER saw them was a couple months ago with E.Coli scare and they were $2.49. At the grocery store they are $3.99 unless they go on sale which is never cheaper than $2.99. When the e.Coli scare was going on they were $5.99 at the regular store. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

We use Romaine MOST of the time. And why buy 1 head when I can get the hearts for the same price! LOL :D My hubby likes iceburg a lot, and it's usually cheap there too.

We eat A LOT of fresh fruits & veggies. We're probably the only family in town that actually gets our 9 servings in a day! LOL :D
