hi there! my oldest will be 4 in december. we bought a book at sams to start "school". i wanted to see if she liked it, if she was ready, what she liked, etc. She LOVES it. and apparently, already knows most everything in those books. i'm not really creative enough to come up with unit studies on my own and browsing the internet trying to compile things together gives me a headache. then, i found MFW. the kindergaren curriculum looks very similar in difficulty to what we were doing in our 'sams book'. has anyone used MFW for a 4 yo? i was thinking of getting that, Math U See primer, and some books from the Sonlight booklist. that may be overkill, but my "goal" is not to finish anything by any particular time, but more to have things on hand to help facilitate her learning when she wants to do so. she asks to do school every day, and i want to allow her to do it if she loves it. anyway, now i am rambling. probably because everyone always tells me not to do anything yet, just read to her, yada yada yada. but, she she's BEGGING for more, i feel like i should give it to her. thoughts?

I think MFW's kindergarten curriculum would be great for an advanced 4 yo! We did the 1st grade curriculum last year for kindergarten and it was still too basic for Joy.... We did the Bible part of it and did something else for language arts because Joy already knew her letters and basic phonics. The science was good, though. We're doing the 2nd grade curriculum this year, and it is great. :) We're both really enjoying it.

mommyofgirls, I also have a 3 year old that will be 4 in December. What day? Gianna will be 4 on the 7th.

Gianna likes to do a few worksheets and then she is off to something else. She calls it all school.:)

I started my 4yo out in mfw k in august. She will be 5 on halloween. She loves it! it hasn't been too hard or too easy for her, but just what she needs. The science is really good and hands on and the curriculum is very sweet and Godly. I also do sonlight books with her and I bought the Rod and Staff preschool workbooks. She loves them. They have helped her with cutting and gluing and so much more. It is a lot to do for K but I love everything we do. I don't get to all the curriculums everyday, but I just go with her interests and attention level for the day. Good luck!

I don't have any experience with the K program (although will be using it next year); but we are currently doing Adventures in MFW. Have you checked out their website at www.mfwbooks.com? I've been able to get a lot of my questions answered there through the message board. I even emailed a question right to the Hazells and got a response immediately.
Hope all goes well for you!

thanks so much for all of your replies! i felt like considering a kindergarten curriculum was maybe out of line for a 4 yo, but it seemed more simple than some others i've seen. thanks for confirming that for me. i am going to check on those rod and staff workbooks - and i didn't know mfw had a message board, so i will definitely check that out too. i bought another book at sams this week, but this one was even more simple than the first one i bought. she is bored out of her mind! i think i am actually going to start another thread looking for advice about what to do with her next now that i am thinking about it...i am so glad i found this board!!
