Hello Everyone. Wow! Another School Year is just around the corner. My children are looking forward to starting and, at this point, I am too. I was just wondering does anyone have any ways that they use to excite their kids for learning when the subject matter drives even the most avid student to sleep? Thanks, Educate4Kids thehomeschoolexchange.com
OK, I assume you are a returning HS'er, right? I'm a newbie, but I've learned a lesson here and there along the way so far: When the kids get bored, I let them choose from a folder of printouts of things I want to teach them during that time period in that subject(s). It takes some of the grunts out of teaching and puts more power in their hands. I got a lot of great suggestions here from parents like; take education outside the home and class room, make it more interactive, less scripted and less formal. And give them a break when they need it. My kids love computer based things and that helps too.
Hi, welcome to homeschoolspot! Have you tried letting them lead? Like you say ok today we have to cover this, this, this and this, which one do you want to do the least? and starting with that one.. it may help if they have something that they want to do to look forward to. I also agree with Geekymom.. try taking them outside and things. We have a screenroom that we have used a few times as a classroom... but it's not always easy with paperwork. Try to tie in some fieldtrips.. or best of all... ask the kids what they would like to do with it, or how they feel it could be made more interesting.
