Ok gals, this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I usually don't share this sort of info but I really am not sure what to do. Here goes: I was late for my period last month. Around the time I was supposed to get it I had some very light spotting and began to develop some pregnancy symptoms (they could also have been PMS). The spotting only lasted for two days and left. Then a couple of weeks ago (it would have been about 6 weeks from my last period I started to bleed. Now this is nothing new for me to be late, however this was something I have never in my life experienced. When I started there was no warning. I went to the bathroom and out came all kinds of blood and clots. It continued after that for 2 weeks. The whole time I kept getting an urge to push (like when you deliver) and would soak one of those gigantic pads with bright red blood every 2-3 hours. Lots of clots, stringy stuff, and brown/red flecks. I had no cramping, not regular cramping anyway, just pain in my cervix towards the end. Then it stopped as quickly as it started. Only one day of mild/slow bleeding and that was it. Now, for two days, all I have are some shooting type pains, not super painful just annoying. I did have some pains before the whole thing started. I can't really remember now what they felt like, I just remember having them. They must not have been that bad since I can't even remember how long before the bleeding they were. So ladies, does this sound like a miscarriage or a bad period? Do I call the doctor or would I just sound like a crazy lady?
I think a miscarriage is possible, but you probably want to check things out with your doctor. I once missed a period, took a preg test, and got a neg result. The next month I had a period but heavier than usual, and I did experience that urge to push followed by a pretty large clot. I'm convinced that I did miscarry, but I did not go to the doctor. I was scared to find out. I don't advise that route!! Any big changes should be follwed by a check-up!
I would call the doctor. It could be nothing. It could be a m/c that didn't finish on its own and is causing infection. It could be a very low-lying placenta. It could be a subchorionic hemorrhage (I had that, but it was an unimaginable amount of blood all at once which woke me at 2 a.m. ... it stopped by the time we got to the ER and the baby lived.)
I would also suggest going to the doctor. It may very well be nothing, but leaving things unchecked can cause SO many long-term problems that it's not worth the risk. (Although it doesn't sound like "nothing" to me, I'm not a professional).
always be on the safe side and call your doctor. there is never a dumb question in my book. Its best to be safe then sorry.
Yes anything unusual (and this sounds unusual to me) should be checked out. I'd worry about anything leftover in there causing a terrible infection. Let us know what happens...will be praying for you.
We're all in agreement here, that should tell you something!!! If it was a miscarriage (and I think that's a very real probability) you need to be checked out, to make sure everything is "gone" and there's no infection. If it's not a miscarriage, then it's very strange and you need to find out what's going on.
I agree that this does sound like miscarriage. I would be concerned about tissue not being expelled and left to cause infection. A doctor needs to assess to see if a D&C is needed. If this was just a bad period, I would still go to a dr to make sure hormone levels are normal and to check for anemia.
Thanks ladies! Guess I just needed that extra push to call the doc. Hopefully I can get hold of them today. I'll let you know what I find out.
I'll keep you in my prayers. Waiting to hear what you find out. Any bleeding like this should always be checked.
I had the exact same experience and then after about a week or two of no bleeding I began hemorrhaging badly and had to go by ambulance to the ER for a d and c with a doctor I'd never seen before!!! You need to be checked out.
Thanks for the prayers ladies. I went to the doctor today just for a blood test. The nurse said that it did sound like a miscarriage and that what the blood test says will help them know what to look for in the exam. I'll keep you all posted on what happens.
I'm glad that you went in. I pray that it will all be resolved soon and you will have Gods peace through it.
