Anyone cold enough to try this today??? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sidesho...ovides-cool-opportunities-190918404.html?vp=1
Cool!! Yesterday, after we came in from blowing the bubbles outside...my oldest dd said, "Have you ever tried throwing boiling water outside when it's cold like this?" I asked her what would happen and she said I had to try it and see roll. I am going to try this later today. I wish I had a big squirt gun. And, I wonder why the guy ripped the t-shirt after it froze.
We did it last year when it got really cold. It was cool. we did have some water actually reach the ground, but the steam cloud is impressive.
Although it's cold here (18 degrees) we tried boiling water and throwing it and it DIDN'T work! I wonder why?? Does it have to be below zero? Maybe we will try it again....
It was -3 when I tried it this morning and really it was more like steam than snow. It was still kind of fun.... I guess, if you consider going outside when it's -3 with a windchill of -28 just to throw a pot of hot water fun lol
We did the boiling water last time we had an ice storm. The kids got a big kick out of it! Thankfully, it's not nearly that cold this time around. Still cold, and I honestly wish I could be griping about being hot right about now like I did all last summer!! Soooo glad I don't live in the upper states! It's been down in the teens here the last few nights, but We enjoyed 51 degree weather here today and I was STILL cold!! I can't even imagine negative temperatures with an even colder wind chill!
It didn't work very well for us! A friend had posted it on FB. On a cute note, Heidi (from Pennsylvania), who was a member here a good number of years ago, announced on FB Monday night that (name of her school) WOULD BE OPEN in spite of the cold weather. Strict dress code WOULD be observed. She expected all students to wear either flannel or fleece PJ's all day, NO EXCEPTIONS!
I was just reading that some people who try this trick are not being very smart about it and receiving burns. If you try it please throw the water out away from yourself, not up above your head. Jackie, I love the "strict dress code" story.
I never would have even imagined of throwing it above my head... or that anyone else would have either. There is a genius born every second
We tried it today, twice. Dd is boiling water right now for a 3rd try. The first time we really got a big cloud...it was about -8 at the time. It warmed up to -4 now, so we'll see if there's a difference. I also can't imagine anyone throwing it over their head. I would say be careful if there's wind and don't throw it against the wind. Today is great because there's no wind. Our bubbles today worked a lot better without wind too. One thing neat was that dd was watching CNN Student News this morning (as I was boiling water for our 1st attempt). Her jaw dropped to the floor because a segment came on about the cold temps & throwing boiling water outside, blowing bubbles, freezing a wet t-shirt, and a few other ideas. She thought that was pretty cool.
Yeah, I never thought of it being that dangerous until it was posted on one of my Facebook groups and someone gave the warning to be careful and shared this http://www.buzzfeed.com/adriancarra...f-people-threw-boiling-water-in-the-air-to-wa (warning, some questionable language) we heard them talking about some of these experiments on KLOVE yesterday and my nine year old thought that was really cool.
