Our family is planning to move from VA to WI this year (hopefully in the next few months). I have read up on the hs laws in WI and I think that it will be easier than what I have to do here. (woot) Anyway my question is, because I am really just too lazy to look it up myself (and I figured I can chat about it with some people so it would be a win win for me) is has anyone ever moved states in the middle of the school year? Is there anything special that you would need to do? I have friends that have moved within the same state and they just finished out with the city they were with and then the following year they turned in their NOI with the city that they live now. I just don't think that is going to work so well moving across the country. Thanks in advance! Becca
I've done it twice, once just two weeks ago. The first time I was using an umbrella school in TN and moved to TX, where nothing is required--VERY easy move!! I just notified the umbrella school to let them know I no longer needed their cover. This move was from TX to MS. Since nothing was required in TX, I just have to register with the school system here (need to do that TODAY, actually, we have 15 days to register). Since you are moving states, you will need to comply with the new state's laws. if it's easier, I'm sure you'll want to anyway!
I guess I am wondering because in VA we have to test every year and in WI you have to do 180 days and no testing. Does anyone think that I will have to test with VA before I leave and start in WI or would I just need my HS records from the school district and give them to WI?
I think it would depend on when you move. If you are still in VA when testing is typically done, then I would have the testing done--especially if you are unsure of a move date. If you are moving before the testing is done, I would not feel obligated to test.
