Are you are still moving to LR, where you had mentioned visiting before? We just moved to LR in August. We were in sort of the same situation, my husbands company moved us. He was a meat cutter, and they needed a meat manager in their LR location. We kind of got burned in the move- the moving allowance was not a big as they said at first, we had packed our entire house before the move, but they insisted on having a mover pick up and deliver our stuff. Well, the moving company was backed up and it took us an entire month, to the day, to get our stuff delivered. But good news is, we were able to find a great rental house in 4 days- we did however have to stay in the motel (his company paid) for the month until our stuff got here. One reason we did it that way is we have 3 dogs, and it was hard to find a place that would accept them. We had to have them boarded at the vet here until we found a house. Once we did find the house they were sleeping in it alone, we would go several times during the day to play and let them out. Our dogs were very confused for that month.

We live sort of right our of the city- enough in the country that it is so quiet and the house we ended up finding has a good bit of land for the kids to play. Plus we live only about 5 miles from work.

We did find our house on craigslist. Be careful, we found a few scammers with the story "we are currently out of the country so send us a deposit and we will send you the keys to look at the house." Yeah right

There were a lot of listings in the newspaper classified, and they have a sales type paper that comes out each week- the thrifty nickel- but there were not as many listings in that paper. Depending on how much you can spend and what you are looking for, you should be able to find something quick, but you will have to look hard and go to a lot of places. Also, the way they have things set up as far as addresses go, is very confusing. Make sure you have a map of LR, because it does get crazy when you are driving around. The city is split into about smaller cities, and that depends on where you will find the house, there are the same street names in all of them. Not good city planning. Some of the places in our search were not acceptable at all, dirty and beat up, but we kept on looking and found two maybes, the house we are in is way better than we thought we would find. If you wanted to live in an apartment, there are a lot of nice ones, complexes and duplexes in good neighborhoods.

The shopping is ok. The city we came from had four big chain supermarkets, so we could shop around a lot, and here they have Krogers, The Fresh Market, and Whole foods. There is walmart, of course, and a few farmer's markets.

There are some awesome parks, and a lot to do here. We have not done very much yet, just the zoo and some of the parks so far.

Feel free to PM me and ask any more questions. Hopefully we can meet up once you are here. There are some homeschool groups that have a lot of activities. We share one car, so the timing and price are sometimes out of our means. Everyone we have met so far is very welcoming and nice.

DH did find a house, but we are stuck living in Cabot. That's the store they put him in (after telling him he could have of the first 5 in LR). I'm not happy about being so far from the city, but I'll deal. We'll be moving the end of November/beginning of December. I'd LOVE to talk more about HS groups and such. Where we live now has a huge HS population, so I'm used to having far more to choose from than we'd ever do. lol.

I'm giddy to "know" someone in the area!
