My SIL from Holland is coming to the USA for the first time ever. She's going to New York City, and asked me what I'd recommend. Museum of Nature and Science I told her....thats all I could come up with. Experiecing the subway system in New York is not attractive for her, she comes from Holland Any suggestions for cool places to go shopping, and especially restaurants? Something that you can only find in New York? Also, she LOVES anything sweet, so any suggestions in that area?
I don't think it's the "Museum of Nature and Science". You might mean The American Museum of Natural History - which is a great place to see. Here are some others: The Metropolitan Museum of Art Top of the Rock and Rockefeller Center walking around Times Square Any Broadway show The Downtown Loop Bus Tour World Trade Center Memorial Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum Museum of Modern Art Ellis Island
Ah! I had forgotten Madame Tussauds! Yes, I'm not sure what the museum was called, but it was across from central park, and I suppose the movie "Night at the Museum" was based on it...(?) I think she'll like the ferry too...she only has a few days. Thanks!
St. Patricks Cathedral Central Park (even just a cab ride through) I highly suggest the Grey Line Bus tours, http://www.newyorksightseeing.com/category.php?cat=DDT I have done them many a times and my mil just did one last year. They are the hop on/hop off variety. Frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3 http://www.serendipity3.com/location.htm If she wants to head into Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are stunning.
Oh there is so much to see and do in NYC! I love going to look at the old churches and the street performers at Battery Park. Statue of Liberty is a favorite and Ellis Island is really neat as well. Times square is neat to see and there is a lot of great shopping as well!
My wife spent half a day just looking around Macy's. Wandering around Times Square after dark is an experience all by itself. A friend of mine refers to New York City as the "center of the universe," and I can understand why.
Macy's of course! I love walking down 5th Avenue too. Lots of great shops I cannot afford anything in.
For a good NYC Pizza try an find a Ray's Original. My favorite place is in Brooklyn but Ray's will do for a pinch.
My favorites would be: -a Broadway show -Museum of Modern Art (but that's my preference. Others might prefer Metropolitan or Guggenheim) -John's Pizza -Central Park on a nice day, not a drive through. Just relax and enjoy it on a stroll.
Oh I love to see the Rockettes! I haven't been to see them in almost forever but they are such fun to watch and it's definitely a NYC experience!
