Last two days this 1st Week

    Wednesday:

We had a choppy day yesterday. Had a graduation at daughter's middle school to attend. We were able to do devotion, prayer requests, reading time and Brainpop English. Again, I expanded the English to include work in their journal books. They took Adjectives and Adverbs and wrote their own sentences.

As a side note. I noticed with "normal" schooling I felt that the kids were memorizing things and maybe not learning as much as they should. HS'ing has allowed me to know first hand, immediately what they grasp and do not so it can be addressed.

After the graduation yesterday they came home and completed a lesson in Science and History. Didn't do Math yesterday as this week is sorta to get their feet wet. Next week I plan to break open the textbooks.

    Thursday
We had devotion, 30 minutes of reading time.

I comprised a test in English of material the kids have went over this week. To my surprise, after giving them 5 minutes to study their notes, my daughter got confused about an Adjective and Adverb. Despite that she had went over it earlier and she had tested well on it before. So again, I had to expand the exercise. I gave her examples of each, and wrote the definitions for her in her Journal book.

While this was going on, my son had tested well in the English test and needed something to do. I had him select a subject on Brainpop to explore. I try to have them go subject by subject together, it's less confusing to me. (Thank goodness for sites already laid out for you, in a crunch like this) Hahaha

I'm about to retest daughter in English in a few minutes.

We plan to finish the other study Lessons in Science and History today and we will be done for the week.

LOL, I'm getting a lil Math guilty, so I may download a couple of math pages for the kids.

    Friday's
We have a 4 day school week so... No School!

Update: Bethany just tested 100% in English on her new test. Needless to say, Adjectives and adverbs will creep into our conversations today. Right... SneakyMom. -LOL

SIDE BENEFIT OF HS'ing: I admit it, we watch tv at our house. But I have noticed that as a side benefit of HS'ing, even when school is over, the kids are NOT watching hardly any tv during the day, and neither am I. I encourage them to go outside and play to balance the curriculum to include P.E., and I am more physically involved going up and down the stairs and checking work and their progress.

My name is Mellanese and I'm a recovering couch potatoe.

LOL, I did not realize the box was still there until I looked at the picture here. I was trying to find room on my disk drive and needed to add another subject yesterday. Hubby is going to try and add more disk space. Thank goodness for the other computers they can use.

P.S. The box goes go with the blue decor. --Hahaha

    I love your story!
    and your photos!

One little thing that I noticed, in the first photo that I thought was cool; the little brass bell!

I could not have one, because I would be ringing it all the time and my kids would hate me! hahaha!

I think you are doing awesome!
Before my husbands accident, in May, we had a huge three bedroom apartment, with the master bedroom as the 'Classroom". But now we are downstairs in a two bedroom, so we are making it up as we go along, finding our place usually in the living room.

Anyway, I have not been on much due to my husbands needs, but it is nice to meet you and keep it up, you are doing GREAT!

Nice pictures. I like your set up. This was our first year and we are on a break. We are taking the week off because my DD just took her test.
I love to see color on the walls. We living in military housing and don't get to paint the walls. I have my own personal countdown until we transfer and buy a home. The first thing I am going to do it paint every wall in the house. No white. We have been renters/housing going on 4 years. I was color!!!

Jen, I was a substitute teacher last year and the year before so the bell saved my vocal cords.

Ironically, the kids now use it during homeschool to let me know they are finished with their assignment. They ring the bell and say "Mrs. S..., we're finished with our work." Hahaha, the school title helps keep me in teacher mode.

The walls: I am a HGTV addict so painting the walls took a while, but I did it a couple of years ago. Hahaha, we are looking at possible moving to VA and each agent who came to our home told us to paint it back neutral. The other color we used downstairs was a medium green. I just need some color!

Thanks you all for your comments!

Oh wow, here in California the colors would sell the house!
Everyone is painting bright bold colors right now, even the model homes had them set up that way in the new division up our street!

I wouldn't paint it neutral! It looks so alive and energetic. I love it. Beth
By the way. Where are you thinking about moving in Va?

Me, too! I am constantly painting things and making them "new" again. In fact, I hope to paint my table and chairs next week. I LOVE color!! ( BTW, you can add colors and still be neutral. My bedroom is a mocha color.)

Congrats on being off to a great start!! Your kiddos are beautiful!

Your room looks fun and festive. I also like the bench. Have a lot of fun! I like the colors too, we mostly have neutral here but I broke the mold a couple years ago.

We love getting creative here my kitchen is white and colbalt blue! and I still need to take that picture of my scripture plaque that Deena made me for that gift exchange last christmas!
