By the way, it's illegal to collect the feathers of any migratory birds.. so turkeys are fair game, but if it goes somewhere else for the winter or summer, then they are illegal. Maybe they use the scent of their feathers they left behind in order to find their way back...lol
I live in the deep south... I see bluejays, sparrows, wrens, blackbirds, herons and egrets, martins, swallows, owls, hawks, and tons of others here all year long. The only ones that cross my sky that I know for sure are migratory are ducks and geese and doves, and we shoot those down and eat 'em! (Oh, and the hummingbirds, which we feed.) Am I supposed to ask the bluejays whether they're permanent residents or just passing through, every time one drops an unneeded feather in my yard???
Well, here blueJays and cardinals stay all winter long, though we see more cardinals in winter than jays.
 Can you imagine if we all collected feathers...and the birds didn't know where to go, flying into each other, zig zagging around in total confusion..terror in the skies.
OMG.... everyone, quick, run out and gather every feather you can find! I want to see if this happens
