I had my youngest dd at the hospital last night... If you wouldn't mind praying for her. She had a HORRIBLE allergic reaction to.. are you ready? A mosquito bite. My oldest was allergic but my poor Gwendy, her face (she's almost 3 BTW) was completely swollen from a bite on her FORHEAD. :( They gave her some steroids and I cannot believe the diff it has made but this will proove to be a LOOONG summer with the bugs :( Thanks so much!

WOW... that will make for a long summer. I will certainly be praying. I think my dd8 has a slight allergy to mosquitos. Her bites get really big and hard and take months to heal. I try to keep her covered with bug spray as much as possible. My pediatrician says -"Dusk to dawn, stay indoors!" It just can't always happen that way though! If I know ahead of time that we will be outside for a while in the evening, I give my dd a dose of Benedryl before we head out. It does seem to help some.

Thanks Pam. The Benedryl alone wasn't helping. What concerned me most was it was getting worse after 24 hours. She got bit FriDAY.. and it swelled up last night. :( It was something else. The steroid they put her on.. really has helped with just ONE dose.

I have heard using skin so soft will help repell them.. SO I just put an order in.

Ohh poor thing, I hope and pray she will be ok. Madison has a site reaction from them, and always needs bug spray on.

I heard if you OD on the allergin you have a chance of getting over it completely. I know it was like that with me and cats.

Christian was the same way... his eyes were swollen almost shut from mosquito bites (he reminded me of Spok from Star Trek - I think that's his name)... his arms or back would bruise and welt from the bites... it was horrible. The good news for us anyways, was that he has grown out of it. \o/\o/\o/\o/

I used to get shots for my allergies and that was also the idea. However, it is a weird kind of balance. If you OD too much you can have an ashtma attack or a worse reaction. Also, not all allergens will respond to the ODing. Not sure why or what the diff is. I know that being allergic to sulfa drugs...I can NEVER have them again. There is no getting used to it. My dd is allergic to cats also, and sometimes reacts and sometimes doesn't. Allergies can be a weird thing.
