    Follow this link to see how the different states rate at 4th and 8th grades in reading and in math. You will be asked to choose a grade level, a subject, a year, and what other information you want to compare. This might include what scores were earned by students scoring at the 75 percentile compared with those at the 25th percentile, or white/black, or white/hispanic, or kids on free lunch program or not. It will show you a chart with the average scale scores by state (or jurisdiction, including DoDEA schools and Washington DC schools). This list will be in alphabetical order by jurisdiction, but you can have it sort the list by average scaled score, if you click on the button under ALL STUDENTS (I find this the most revealing). If you click on the National Public row, it will show you by color and symbol whether a given state is above, equal to, or below the National Average. If you click on any state name, the data shows how many jurisdictions scored above, equal to, or below the state you chose.
