Okay, this may sound really corny, but we just LOVE the movie "National Treasure!" It's really clean (especially for a Nic Cage movie) and makes it okay and even thrilling to be a history buff/historian! Each time we find it on, we watch it, and DS (7) runs around the house for days -- solving puzzles, making up codes, copying documents, etc. He especially loves copying the Declaration of Independence. (Of course, I don't MIND that at ALL!) We're careful to make certain DS knows the actual history....and he's just loving it!

My question is this...are there movies that do the same for your family/child(ren)? I would really love for DS to see lots more movies like NT - movies that make history fun and show just how exciting it really is!

We love this movie too. We watch it frequently for friday movie/pizza night. A very nice break from Shrek and the Starwars saga(except #3--it scares Eva)! My DH is the history buff here, I'll ask him if thre are any more movies like NT.--- Did you guys watch the rality show Treasure Hunters? It kind of was a take on the movie where they were looking for clues that had to do with places or people in the nation that were significant.

I've never seen Treasure Hunters. I have thought about getting involved in GeoCaching. Also doing more letterboxing. We've only letterboxed once or twice. hmmmm

    YES!

It was on again last night and I groaned, "This movie AGAIN?!" hahaha

We love it. Although, we wished it could have been deeper and we are still tapping our toes waiting for a part two to this movie... But Alas! It will most likely never be . . .

This movie has joined our "Forver Favorites", which include the likes of Braveheart, Titanic, Dave, Dances with Wolves, 5th Element and Contact. (Not a complete list, of course!)

Great idea for a thread! Now you have my brain going! hahahaha!

Our pastor is a movie guy. He recommended National Treasure and said it's a great flick! Hubby saw it, but I haven't seen it yet.

I really enjoyed National Treasure, but felt it was too violent for my younger two. Phillip would have reveled in all the violence, and Faythe would have become quite upset. Rachael would be fine with it.

IMHO, the best movie of all time has to be "Fiddler on the Roof".

What about "Sound of Music" or let's look on the happy side, what about "Pollyanna"? :D

Jackie, I think we're showing our age! You're about 30 like I am, right?! ;)

Not movies, but a couple of Nova episodes that my son watches over and over again and have an effect on the content of his drawings:
    - Mars: Dead or Alive (about the twin rovers)
    - Battle of the X-Planes (about the Boeing vs. Lockheed competition for the contract to build the next fighter jet)

    And a real-time strategy game:
    - Age of Empires III

Brave heart is another good one. My family love Harry Potters one too. The movie was great too.

And I loved the original "Piarates of the Carribean" movie, though again Rachael is the only one who saw it!
