A little background: This is our first year homeschooling our 7th grade daughter and 4 grade son. We're in Indiana, so we don't have reporting, testing or letter of intent guidelines. We are also foster parents and tonight our 16 year old asked if he could be homeschooled (after homecoming ;) ). The problem is since he's fostered the law says he can't be homeschooled without permission. I strongly believe that since he's 16 and only in 9th grade when he should be in the 11th grade and there is no chance he will ever return home that we can petition the court and have them agree it's in his best interest. I want to go to them with everything laid out why they should approve it, which means I need to know which curricula to use. We're using Teaching Textbooks for math and will also use that for him and I like Apologia for science. Beyond that I'm open to any suggestions for a reluctant learner with problems focusing. He thoroughly enjoys computer games so if it's on the computer that's a bonus. We are also doing Mystery of History vol 1.

Swith On Schoolhouse (SOS) is curriculum on the computer. He might find that more interesting than the normal textbook. They have individual subjects or everything for you. SOS is by Alpha Omega. You can check them on-line.

I think I'd look at a well-recognized, standards based curriculum, like Switched-on-Schoolhouse, or ACE or something like that if you think you will have a better chance with your petition. What an opportunity for him to come home during some very crucial years. So excited for you! :)

thank you everyone for your suggestions. We meet with the case manager tomorrow to discuss the possibility. I finally have most of the core subjects decided. Any suggestions for health (1 credit) or phys ed (2 credits)?

PE go with a sport-- fall ball?
There are basket ball leagues and baseball all year now even soccer, otherwise plan to do a couple of hours a week of teaching sports and playing around with it.

For health check out AOP/ Horizon health
