I gave Lily an idea for her birthday and she is so excited! We are not even telling the rest of the family. We are starting with a meatloaf layer "cake" frosted with mashed potatoes and decorated with little dots of ketchup and mustard around the edges. I need a vegetable that looks like dessert to go with it. I am thinking something that looks like a pie or cookie. Maybe a green bean casserole in a pie shell? Any ideas out there? The dessert is going to be Elmo made out of a white sheet cake covered with strawberries. We are also thinking of doing a "taco salad" made of waffle cone bowls with chocolate ice cream with coconut dyed to look like cheese and lettuce, with marashino cherries for the tomatoes.
You can fill ice cream cones with mashed potatoes....? Rachael made meatloaf in cupcakes, and iced them with mash potatoes with food coloring added.
I think the ones listed are sweets that look like veggies, not the other way around.... How about a macaroni and cheese faux apple pie? I was thinking beets... surely you could make those look like something. I'll keep thinking and get back to ya. "April Fool recipes" is probably a good google.
We did find some cool sugar cookies made to look like hot dogs and hamburgers. We are going to do those later. I am going to check out those sites. The original design for the meatloaf was from the Quick Cook magazine.
