    What a bunch!

PLEASE EXCUSE MY VERY IMMATURE MOMENT!!!

Roller coaster ride here I come... I AM SO MAD (madder than a wet hen is a common expression around here).

We went to Fredericton today (for our appointment) and while I was down there, I stopped into the wholesale store for businesses because they sell styro cups, etc which we need for the store (we make complimentary coffee each day).

I was told to get the money for the purchase before I left (by my supervisor) but she left early this morning with back problems. Anyway, when I went into the store to get the "pay out", the lady who was working had just started and didn't have enough cash in her till. So I said I would pay for it and then be re-imbursed when I came back. YEAH!

When I came back with a 50 lb bag of popcorn kernels, stryo cups, tea bags and a couple other things... no one could decide whether it was a store purchase or whether the money should come from the raised funds.

Here's my issue with all of this... while the stuff I did get today will be used in part for fundraising there is enough of it that will be left over after we're all done that the store will use the rest (popcorn especially). This is a write off for them so what's the big deal (it wasn't the boss who had an issue but some employees). We go to the grocery store 1 a month to buy 12 bags of popcorn kernels (like 15 lbs a month) for stuff to snack on... the store pays for it. I saved the store money by getting it in bulk today!

Here we are raising funds for a cure for cancer... we won't have much raised if we continue to do fundrraising that requires any kind of "product" (ie popcorn, etc).

I'm so disgusted so tonight I'm on a sarcasm mission ;) If they want to be that way... fine and dandy - I have a great big rubbermaid tote that I will put all the stuff I just bought today into and if we're not using it for relay fund raising - they won't be using it. I will buy the oil for the popcorn maker (so I don't have to us the "store" stuff). I have a measuring cup I will use specifically to measure out the oil and I have lots of salt here to use. I will look for a scoop to use as well. The bags... I just bought them in Fredericton so I won't have to use the store bags.

When staff want to make popcorn for a snack, they can either use the store bought stuff or they can buy the bags of popcorn we will sell (no more freebies)... when they run out, they can haul their behinds back to the grocery store and buy more... they won't be using the relay stuff - in fact, I will donate what's left over to the relay event itself (just to make sure it's all gone when the relay is done)!

I am so angry about this... I can't believe this at all. Maybe when I calm down this might make more sense (but I doubt it).

Brenda, I am in full agreement with you!!! BUT you said it wasn't the boss with the issue. That's an important part! He's the one that really matters! (Unless he's a wimp and lets the other idiots make decisions for him....)

Jackie... we do have the issue of too many chiefs and not enough Indians (sorry for the expression) at work... too many people want to be the boss - but in cases like this... the popcorn and cups wouldn't be an issue for our boss... she would cover the cost of them (she covered the cost of the registration fee for all of us to be a part of this and she's the one who foots the grocery store bill when they want popcorn). She supports the selling of the popcorn (and bought some of it herself on Tuesday) so in effect she paid for it twice at that point - to get it from the grocery store and then to have some herself while supporting the relay.

I'm just blown away by it all and can't believe that this is happening at all... if my supervisor would have been at work today this wouldn't even be an issue (but she couldn't even walk - I encouraged her to go home).

Maybe tomorrow this will all get sorted out - I really don't care... I have the Rubbermaid tote all done and ready to go to work with me, stickers all over it to say that it is to be used for the relay fundraising events (and it's big enough to hold the popcorn and everything else I got today - and when we're done with it, I will donate it back to the Cancer society since in the end they're probably the ones paying for it). I will make room in our fitting room to put all of this stuff so it isn't tempting for others to use it. :x

It will definately ruffle some feathers (those who like their afternoon popcorn snack at the stores expense) but I don't care anymore.

I should be shot for gloating but please allow yet another immature moment (please).

I went to work today with the great big tote and a yellow garbage bag to put the popcorn into. I emptied the bag I bought in Fredericton into the tote and then one of the men carried it back to the fitting room for me. Others decided we should sell the popcorn beginning at 11:00 - so we did. I took my morning break and beat it to the grocery store to get oil to use specifically for the fundraiser (determined I was NOT going to use anything that had to do with what the store had purchased in the past to make popcorn - Heaven forbid it might put some people out). When I came back we started popping popcorn and we used the popcorn bags I bought too (against what some wanted me to do - they wanted me to use the pharmacy bags - Uh... NOPE).

Anyway, I was telling my supervisor what was said about taking the money from the relay funds and she agreed that it didn't seem fair. I told her privately that when the fundraising was done the popcorn would go to the Cancer society (because in effect they used it) and she agreed with me. When another co-worker was standing out front, I repeated that whoever wants any of the popcorn I bought yesterday (made on fundraising days) would have to pay for it (0.50 a bag) and when the fundraising was done the popcorn would be going to the relay. If they wanted popcorn on any other day other than the fundraiser days, they would have to use what was bought by the store for the store and when they ran out, I made it clear that they would have to buy more that they weren't using the stuff I just bought... jaws were hung on the floor - I took them by surprise. BUT I also stand by what I said. If the store wants to buy it and reimburse the relay money, they can pop it any day they want to pop it... otherwise twice a week until the end of May they can have some (if they buy it).

That was my immature moment for the day...

I sent the letters in the mail over a week ago and had intended to get back to them this week but I got busy and hadn't had the chance to do so. Amanda (the gal who is leaving us for another job) works at one of the restaurants I sent a letter to and just told me they are going to do this for us - WOOHOO!

I'll have to get a hold of the other ones I sent letters to and see if they too will do this... this is so exciting! Thank you for praying (and please continue to pray about this).
