Well, apparently Elle is a finalist for a local women's club scholarship. They narrowed it down to 5 kids from 4 schools, and have been known to give out 1-3 scholarships per year. So she has a 20-60% chance of getting an award. LOL.

She came home last night asking for pantyhose...because she has a business attire interview with them today. She wore an adorable black pencil skirt and equestrian style long grey jacket with black velvet collar and a french braid, little raspberry colored undershirt and some artsy earrings with red stones that my best friend gave her...very sharp! (you'd never guess most of it came from GoodWill!)

Scholarship is for $2000. (We're still looking for $12,000....so this would help a lot!)

Cross your fingers for her:) I'd ask ya'll to pray...but I make it a rule never to pray for money unless someone's immediate health/welfare is at risk. Way too many more important thing to bother God with than money...unless someone's really in trouble.

But a little cosmic wink of a good luck wish....would be absolutely appreciated:)

    Here's hoping!

GOOD LUCK!!! Every little bit helps! Rachael had applied for one that the rec soccer association gives out (she had played with them for six years!), and didn't hear, didn't hear, didn't hear. Finally, in NOVEMBER the years she started college (!!!), she got a very nice letter from the woman in charge with a check for about $500, saying she had had SO much going on, etc., and she was very sorry for not being able to follow through, etc. Rachael said it came JUST IN TIME for 2nd semester books!

    Thanks ladies:)

I don't think they'll decide today....but we'll be able to deconstruct the interview and make predictions. LOL! Maybe they'll even tell her the date that they will announce? Man, I hope so. We got all smart at the last minute...and Elle printed out some pictures of her volunteer activities and extra curriculars to share at the interview. Some really cute ones of her working with kids at community science camp. I think most people really enjoy visual aids. Gives them something to talk about, for sure.

Jackie, I've heard that....no word all summer and then POOF! money in the fall. Nerve wracking, though, isn't it? LOL. (then again, I'm not too proud to remind myself...beggers can't be choosers! lol)

Regardless of if any of the scholarships come through....she's ok for this year. The money is available. But we're thinking down the road and trying to stretch what's been saved up as much as possible.

If we blow the whole wad in the first two years, I might need to go back to work to fund this crazy experiment! (which, in all honesty...might be the best thing for me. Would be good for our retirement account, too!)

What a good idea! I'll have to remember printing out pictures for Faythe. I never would have thought of that!!! Yes, you need to "spread it out" as much as possible. Dad gave Rachael some from Mom's estate her first year. He thought it was a LOT, but honestly it was just a drop in the bucket. He's still living in the 70's, when I was paying just under $4000 (including R&B) at a private Christian school, lol! But having it that first year was a big help! Can Elle get work/study stuff, too?

Yep, they've approved her for $2500. in work study, and her grant was close to $10,000. They won't let them work more than 10 hours a week as full time students...which is probably wise. She got a little scholarship for applying early, and a little academic scholarship from a college affiliate.

    About the interview, though!

Elle said that there were five women who interviewed her. She knew four of them! From community activities and a couple were substitute teachers. One of them, Elle helped one day when the Sub notes were stolen. She knew her teacher kept a copy of Sub notes in a folder on her desk top labeled SUB NOTES!....for just such an emergency. Elle found the notes and reprinted them for the sub (with the principal's permission) This was apparently very appreciated....and REMEMBERED! :)

They loved her essay, asked her a lot of questions, and asked her why she didn't apply to more colleges. She said she did, but explained she had been accepted to U of M early..due to applying on the first possible date:) It seemed to please them that she's already registered and ready to go.

She said that the woman she didn't know...commented that "we finally have a female candidate who is appropriately dressed for a professional interview." Elle thought this was both...a great compliment, and also sort of snotty! LOL.

Elle said she got the impression that the women already had their minds made up, and were just going through the motions.....but she's not sure if they have their minds made up to give her money, or just interviewed her to fulfill protocol. LOL. But for the most part, she said the meeting felt very positive. They were intrigued by homeschool and wanted to know more about that part of her life. It's certainly a very positive thing that several of them have known her for a few years!

No clue when they'll announce...but I'll let you guys know regardless of which way the chips fall. Here's hoping!

Jackie...I totally hear you about the older folks being out of touch with what college costs. I told my mom Elle's college was $27,000 per year and she honestly laughed and didn't believe me. When she found out I wasn't exaggerating, she faked a heart attack and expressed sadness that Elle wouldn't be able to go.

Ah man...actually, if you'd have asked ME if we'd be doing this...I would have never thought so. But hey, when the school puts up THEIR money and gets you half way there.... you really have to try.

    So...here we go:)

PS...the pictures went over very well!

OH, wow!!! WHEN will kids realize that their APPEARANCE COUNTS? Well, that means those like Elle have a definite advantage!!! Plus, I'm sure she was nervous going in. Seeing four people she knew would help relieve that, and would help her come across more confident. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
