So over the weekend we offically decided to bring DD home. She is in PK, but in the three months has become a completely different child. She has been anxiety ridden, started exhibiting all these nervous habits and speaking negatively about herself. We received a progress report that was completely wrong and realized these people were not doing anything for our child - to the tune of $2000 a year.

Over Thanksgiving, my inlaws who watch my kiddos while I teach, told me that school was obviously stressful for her. At the end of the day she was cranky, introverted and needed a ton of coddling and reassurance. They thought that with the useless progress report there was no reason to keep her there.

We all decided to pull her - DH, inlaws and tonight we broke the news to DD. She was a little emotional at first and then when we told her about school at her grandparents and home she was thrilled! She said, "Now I don't have to worry about school anymore." I almost wanted to cry that she even had been worrying. I could definitely read signals, but now it is confirmed.

I have no idea when and if we will return to school. Illinois has great homeschooling laws so I don't even know that I care or am particularily worried. I am just so thrilled to have the stress off my shoulders.

I know this is a lot for an introduction but I had to share.

Mom to Gabriela (4 yo) and Anthony (10 months)

Welcome! And it is hard at first when you've got a child that isn't having a good time in school. I experienced that with my oldest. It's been a whole new world with hsing that's for sure!

Welcome and remember; what works this year, may not work next year. You can always adjust to suit your child, even if that means going back to school or full homeschool, or private tutors for some subjects, etc... The world of real education is endless!

I have been a homeshool traitor lately, I have been telling people that my children are "Privately Tutored" in stead of homeschooled....

The reaction is SOOOOO much different....
You would think we were suddenly such forward thinking smart, clever and resourceful parents...

    Sigh... whatever works, eh?
    Anyway, welcome!

Jessica, you can consider yourself one of the lucky ones!!! You've got g'parents who are supportive of you! What is it you teach?

My mom was my full-time sitter when I was in the classroom. (I NEVER believe in preschool, except under special circumstances, working NOT being one of them.) I quit when my second child was born (oldest was two), but subbed one day a week. Then when number three came, I even gave that up. My mom has always been my biggest hs'ing fan (outside of dh, that is!). My MIL knew FOR A FACT that ALL hs'ed kids have serious social problems, but she tried very hard to keep her mouth shut. Then one day a while back, she commented that it was probably good I hs'ed my middle one, because she really needed the one-on-one (!!!). So I guess she's decided my kids aren't social misfits, and they really are learning as well (if not better!) than other children!
