I'm a new home school mom from Indiana. Actually my husband is taking the lead as the main educator since he's layed off based on the curriculum I customize. We've been homeschooling my 4th grade son for a week and my 8th grade daughter made the announcement today that she's ready to come home. She'll start next monday (3 weeks in the PS year) We wanted her to see the benefits of being educated at home and feel like she was making the decision even though it was guided by us. I'm more nervous about having my daughter home because she's giving up cheer leading (first year) and is very active in public school activities. I haven't found any co ops near us, we're near Indianapolis but I did find a a home schooled cheer squad. I'm sure I'll be asking you all a lot of questions as we try to figure this all out but I'm so glad I found the homeschoolspot.
Welcome! My kids have mostly been homeschooled, but a couple years ago they went to public school while we built our home. Both asked to be homeschooled again (which was our plan, but we also let them own their decision, so to speak). I'm sure there are groups in your area. You might check with your library or area churches to see about groups.
Leissa, it is great that they want to be home with us. I've done so much research and have created custom curriculums for each child based on their learning style. I just can't believe it took us so long to come to the decision to homeschool. Just the initial talks of homeschooling seemed to unify our family including family members I thought would object. We have so much support, much to our surprise. I'm still very nervous because it's still so new to us, at least when they were in public school we could pass 1/2 the blame to the school sytem I'll be checking here often to see what works or doesn't work for others.
