I have been researching homeschooling for almost a year now and we've made the decision to do it. My sons are not schoolage yet, but I plan on starting preschool at home this year to start getting us into a routine and setup etc. My dh is a youth minister and I am SAHM. We have 3 boys: 4yo, 2.5yo, and 1 yo. I am excited to get started but also overwhelmed at the amount of information out there. I'm currently reading The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child by Linda Dobson. Anyway, that's a little about me. I look forward to "meeting" other homeschoolers.
Welcome!!!! We have 3 kids (10, 8, 6). We began homeschooling in March 2007 and we love it. Sometimes I wish we had learned more about it earlier in their lives BUT since hubby was deployed for most of their early lives.....starting when they were all older was definitely easier on me I continue to read LOTS of homeschooling books.....on every type of methods, schedules, unschooling.....you name it. To me, you can't have too much info. Every family is so different so I like to pick up bits and pieces that will work for us. This is an awesome group of ladies!!! Rhonda
Hi and welcome. We will be starting our third year of homeschooling in a couple of weeks. My husband and I love it and so do the girls. Our girls will be in fifth and tenth grades this year. Our other five children are out of school now. I wish we had known homeschooling was possible and I would never have put any of them in public school. Beth
Welcome, Hope. We are in wyoming with 3 beautiful dds. We have hsed from the very begining, going on 5 years now. Relax, have fun and enjoy the adventure.
Welcome, We are starting our 4th year of homeschooling. My ds (14) is starting 9th grade and my dd (12 in in couple of weeks) is starting 7th grade. I still read homeschooling books as much as possible. I feel you can never have too much information.
Hi!! We are a little (ok alot ) south of you. I am fairly new as well. I have a 4 yo, 2 yo and one on the way. We did as you are doing and did a test run with pre k type stuff last year. We are going to start with kindy stuff next week. It is so much fun, and so easy (at least kindy is). It is amazing to me how much my boy wants to learn even without me telling him he has to learn something, I just have to take the time to really explain it to him. Ask lots of questions, these ladies are so helpful and ready to answer them. Even when it is the 10th time you asked if you can really "do" kindergarten without buying a bunch of circulum.

Hi and welcome to the board. We are home schooling our DS 10, DD 9, while running after another DD, 23 months.
Hi. I'm a mom of 2 boys - 5 and nearly 3, Homeschooling in south Texas. Welcome and I hope this forum is as helpful to you as it has been to me!
Welcome to the world of homeschooling! It's a blast. I am a former teacher who started hs my kids (mid-year) almost 5 years ago. It's everything I loved about the idea of being a teacher. Best wishes.
Welcome to Homeschool Spot and to homeschooling! Here are a couple of books that helped us a LOT when we started thinking about homeschooling... Mary Pride's Complete Guide to Getting Started in Homeschooling: http://www.home-school.com/catalog/pages/mpguide.php3 We checked this out of the library and it was fantastic! It starts at the very beginning - why people homeschool, what homeschooling "looks" like, which kinds of kids (and moms!) do best with which kinds of curriculum, etc etc.. If you can't find it at your library with this title, look for The Big Book of Home Learning, Volume 1. It's the older edition of the same book. Mary Pride also has a website: http://www.home-school.com/ I haven't hung out a lot on the website, so I don't know if it is as helpful as her book. Cathy Duffy wrote 100 Top Picks For Homeschool Curriculum: Choosing The Right Curriculum And Approach For Your Child's Learning Style. We bought it at a Half-Price Books, but you could check at your library for it, too. It goes through a long list of curricula and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each of them. There are SO many curricula out there, and sorting them out gets very confusing and overwhelming! She talks about whole "box" curriculum programs, which include practically everything you need for the whole year; as well as individual products (different math curricula, or language arts, or whatever), so it's helpful whether you want to go with just one company's stuff or mix and match. I think most people mix and match to some degree. Cathy Duffy also has a website: http://www.cathyduffyreviews.com/ I hope that helps!!
Thank you for all the warm welcomes and info! I look forward to getting to know you all and picking your brains on some questions I have!
Hello, I am new to this board too. Most of my homeschooling years were in Texas. It is a homeschool friendly state I recommend reading many homeschool books. They help you in so many ways. The one I like to recommend to new homeschoolers is "The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook" by Raymond and Dorothy Moore. It was the one that helped me the most in my early years.
