Hi - I am currently in the process of trying to prepare for my daughter's first year of homeschooling. We will be starting with K5 in August through the A Bekah Academy and honestly I feel a bit overwhelmed.

I have just cut my work hours back to 7am-10am (I could not afford to completely quit). This is our second week coming home early and I am already frazzled!

I want her to enjoy her summer break but don't want her to think that "homeschooling" just means leaving preschool (I have her in a before school progam while I work) early so we can go home and play.

I thought that by cutting my hours now we would have a chance to get a routine down before "school" begins but am at a loss for what to do next.

Any suggestions from experienced homeschool moms?

Welcome to homeschooling! It can seem a little overwhelming at first, especially when you pick an intensive program. Abeka is a good curriculum, but a bit time and work intensive. I used a lot of Abeka when my kids were small, but never as a whole. I mostly used the workbooks, because I liked their color. I picked and chose the what I felt was needed and skipped what seemed like busy work.

I checked out a book at the library about what your first grader should know (don't know if there is one for 5k). The list is very small. My point? Try not the stress. 5k should be about having fun with letters, numbers and books. The greatest thing you can do for your dd is to keep learning fun.
