Hello! My name is Valerie Baker. My husband and I homeschool our two youngest children - both girls, ages 9 & 14. Our oldest daughter has been married for 1 1/2 years now and is in college. I did not homeschool her except in 7th grade. I am so excited to be a homeschool family. We started homeschooling after my 14 year old had mono in the first grade. She was out for 2 weeks. I went to get her work and she did it in about 4 hours. I went back the next day to get the rest and was floored to find out that I was paying for an advanced Christian education and there was no more work. My youngest was in daycare a few hours a day and had just been expelled for biting. She was not a biter until she went to daycare! So I was faced with what to do with a 2 year old expelled from daycare and tuition for a 1st grader who could do all of her work in 4 hours that the class had spent two weeks on - You guessed it - I promptly withdrew her and we became a homeschool family. I was amazed in only a few short weeks at the closeness the girls shared and the behavior changes. They were sweeter! I do work but am blessed to be able to choose the hours and days that I work and at times work from home. Further, I am able to take my children with me to work. To further the blessing, my husband pastors a church and drives a school bus for the public school system. This allows him to be home in the daytime and to help as needed. We have found that a couple online classes for the older child are very helpful and she loves them. The younger is still very much a mama's girl and stays close. This is good because she has dyslexia and needs extra help. I am excited to have found this forum and look forward to sharing with each of you. Blessings, Valerie

Hello, & Thank you for sharing your story with us Being able to accoplish more in a few hours at home ...That was one of the very reasons i chose to home-school... When i was 16 yrs old i quit school and went to get my GED..when i took my placement test i was so embarressed that i was only at a 7th grade level I felt like the public school sysytem failed me..So after only 3 months of studying at home i passed my GED the 1st time!!!! So i knew then and there i would home-school my children one day..... BTW we also use Online programs (Time4learning,spellingcity,ect)for our kids as well
