We usually just stay home and have a snack night of different foods and try to stay up to watch the ball drop at 12 but it doesnt always happen..LOL we just stay home with the kiddos and watch movies too. My hubby birthday is the 1st of Jan so we have a nice dinner and stuff too that night.
Our Sunday School teacher is having a get-together at his house. Had one last year that was so much fun! There was a truckload (or so) of hotdogs and marshmallows (with or without chocolate and graham crackers to make s'mores with as you choose) for the kids, and another truckload (or so) of fireworks for the kids (with supervision) to explode. The grownups brought soup, salad, or dessert. We sang, talked and visited until midnight, sang Auld Lang Syne, and went home. And a good time was had by all. For New Year's Day, we're cooking cabbage and blackeyed peas and corn bread and mashed potatoes for a traditional NYD meal at my friend's house. We're thinking DS and his family will be there too, maybe another friend as well.
We will probably stay home and watch movies and then have pork roast, greens, black eyed peas, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, pickled beets and corn bread for New Years Day. I might make some sweet potato pies too. Freddy loves those.
We have friends who has a party every year. They have a two-story heated "barn". They'll have different movies going on in different locations, a puzzle somewhere, games, guitars, and LOTS of food. Very kid-friendly. While there will be some alchohol, it's the exception (except at the midnight toast!) and I've never seen anyone who is even slightly tipsy. We'll get home around 3 or 4 AM, then sleep until noon!
we will be going to my parents house. my sister son says it is a tradition that all the grandkids stay at pawpaw's house and wait for the new year. So we will have movies, games, and early bed for the little ones, but we will see!
We are having some friends over with their kids and eating some finger foods, I think my daughter talked me into making a lasagna and then since we have a fireplace outside maybe we'll do some 'smores too with some andes mints and carmello's. Not sure yet. But anyway, we're all wearing our jammies and just having some fun.
Mac being from the south would LOVE that meal, he used to love having fat back, but that tradition went out the window when I kind of made the house really smoky when the bacon crumbs on the bottom of the pan got burnt. so now our new tradition is: black eyed peas, cabbage, corned beef and some other vegetables, I don't care for black eyed peas, and I've never made them from dried but it was cheaper, I don't have corn bread but maybe we will get some because its donalds and my favorite. Mac would love sweet potato pie, i've never made it.
We're heading out to TN tomorrow, so we'll be spending NYE with dear friends- the same friends we spent NYE with every year until we moved to TX. I'm so excited! We'll play games and eat junk for and wait for the ball to drop together- great fun!
We have people over every year (I hate driving anywhere on New Years Eve)...it's a lot easier with Aiden being so young too. We have about 6-8 friends coming and we'll have a few drinks, eat, and play some games.
My plans for New Year's Day went south . Ohio State is playing in the Rose Bowl. When I was growing up, we ALWAYS went to my aunt's, whose roommate made a fantastic pork and saurkraut meal. Then we'd watch the Big Ten lose the Rose Bowl, or watch OSU in whatever bowl game they were in. So our pastor mentiioned in Staff Meeting a few weeks ago that he planned on having the staff over to his place to watch the game. I was SO excited; Carl's not a sports fan, so I can't remember the last time I got together with a bunch of people to watch the game. So today at staff meeting, nothing was said. So I asked the pastor's wife, and she said that with all going on, they decided they couldn't this year. Of course, I understand, but I really was disapointed. Oh, well!!! Phillip and I will have to watch it alone at home!
Dh is working New years eve. so we will just stay home. watch movies, and no black eye peas. GROSSSSSSSSSS how do you stomach those almost like deer meat. Grossssss.
Kris, your so funny! I don't like black eye peas, but my mom always made us eat a few bits.... funny how your taste buds change when your old. now I love cabbage! so give me all the Cabbage on New years day and I will eat it but as for the other black eye peas.... no way!
We usually hang at home, just us. This year I think my stepfather and some friends are coming. We'll do fingery foods and nibbles.
The church youth group we are leaders of are having a party at church. Food, videos, games, and a sleep over (not that I am expecting much sleep, LOL). We wake up and are having a big pancake breakfast before sending them all home. The kids are very excited.
MOVING!!!!! Usually, we put out all kinds of snacks (beef stick, crackers, cheeses, pretzels, etc) and stay up waiting for the ball to drop. We buy silly hats and party blowers.. and it's just us, no company..lol. This year we will be finishing any painting we haven't gotten done tonight at the new house and on Friday we will be moving anything that hasn't already been moved, so I dont' think we will be staying up to see the ball drop this year.
