I just received this from CHEO, concerning changing laws about when Children's Services can intervene. It's very important for us to stay up on this!!! The CHEO link also has an additional link that will allow you to read in more detail what this bill will do.

No, it hasn't become law. That's why I'm posting it NOW. The people of Ohio need to jump in and let their legislatures know how wrong this is, and that we are totally against it. While we are not against prosecuting those that abuse children, we also need to protect parents from having Children's Services called in due to accidents. For example, it noted that Children's Services could be called in if a child was injured in a car accident that was the parent's fault. Or if a child was injured riding a bike without a bike helmet.

I am in complete shock....did you read where it said "If the child was cut by a sharp stick, it is the parent's fault for not taking it away"????? I am a complete helicopter parent as it is, and I'd like to believe I go above and beyond to keep my child safe but come on....he's a 5yr old boy...should I just put him in a dress now?

I'm NOT a "helicopter parent". I'm one who believes kids need to explore on their own. But sometimes that results in hurt. Most of the time this is not serious, but sometimes kids fall from trees, etc. I read about a young man who died sledding last week, at a boy scout camp. It was just one of those things, no one's fault. My Rachael, when she was very little, toddled into the kitchen just as my teen dss took a pizza from the oven. He opened the oven door, took out the pizza, turned to put it on the table. And she picked that time to come into the room, and fell with both hands onto the open oven door. Faythe actually climbed onto the table at two to get some homemade chicken noodle soup. I had set a small bowl in the middle of the table, because I knew it was too hot for her. She got hold of it, pulled it off the table onto herself, and was burned. Neither of these incidents were "abusive" or "negligent".

It simply is NOT POSSIBLE to protect a child 24/7, regardless of your parenting style! Accidents DO happen!

I don't live in ohio, but I am awed at the stupidity of the laws they try to come up with. I mean seriously?? What kid has never had an accident??
