First of all, thank all of you who have answered all my previous questions. You have helped me tremendously.
Now,how about LLATL (Learning Language Arts Through Literature)Has anyone tried this?I was looking at it in my catalog. It says that it is a complete phonics, reading, handwriting, grammar, and spelling course all rolled into one.Is this true?Or would I still need to add those things?
I'm thinking that if its true,I can use the blue book with both girls next year(Grade 1 and kindergarten)hence saving some money by not having to buy seperate phonics, spelling, reading, etc.
I would like to have some imput though from someone other than the catalog;)
    Thank you all again

I don't consider it a "complete" curriculum. It's very laid back. But in all honesty, it's been ages since I've used it, and I have the older version. They newer one may have more stuff added to it.

We use LLATL - and yes, it is in in one.

I am only beginning to add things this year ( for grade 6), as I want to add some other grammar books from Oz.

Depending on your childrens needs, I wouldn't add any extras in the early years.

    We really enjoy the program.

Thank you both:DI think that if I add a few extras,it may work for us.
I'm getting ready to curriculum shop for next year, which makes me very glad to have found this forum. It is so nice to be able to get imput from someone who has used a program.Instead of depending on the products website or the catalog.

    We loved LLATL

We did blue and part of red. Red has it's idiosyncracies (sp?) but I'm bummed we didn't finish it. We opted for more clear cut phonics (because I thought that was better) and I started another all-in-one curriculum that contained grammar. I got rid of it and I'm so bummed, because I want to go back. But I can't justify the expense of it again, unless I can find red used, but unused, KWIM?;)

I think it's a tad light on spelling, but I think if you're dc spells okay then it's just right.

Conflicting or not, reading about personal experiences helps a lot:D
This morning,I was sure that LLATL was for us,now this evening I'm wondering if I really want something that I will be having to suppliment:confused:Its a good thing I am not ordering curriculum for a few more weeks, lol.I did this last year too.I second guessed myself right up untill I ordered everything, and we were happy with all my chioces.
    Maybe I stress a tad too much:roll:

The first year I did LLATL, it was a good match. Mid-way through the next year, is wasn't any longer. Curriculum is something you tend to be CONSTANTLY adjusting!

No, that book was not a complete program. It wasn't bad by any means, but complete? No.

We used the high school version so maybe the little kids is different but..we skipped a lot. It would be a much better program if they had it spiral bound or somehow it was easier to actually use.

I found by cutting the spine off the books, they were more manageable.
The student books pages are already hole punched, so by cutting off the spine, I just added them to a folder for the kids.

Spiral bound would be great though!

Someone suggested that on here probably several years back. I would never have thought it on my own...I mean, isn't that DEFACING a book? Now I do it all the time for books I want to copy a lot. I also will have books such as the answer/test booklets for Saxon or R&S drilled so I can put them in a notebook and not lose them. It has been SO helpful!!!

I was nearly ill, just thinking about cutting the book - but am soooo glad I did.

I had another few school books I also did it with, and I cant believe I hadn't thought of it earlier, as they are more manageable now.
    :)

Don't some people take them to Office Depot or somewhere like that and have them spiral bound? Is there a place there that does stuff like that, sgilli3?

Back in Oz, our local OfficeWorks store could do it for you. ( I guess thats like an Office Depot store).

Havent found anywhere near us over here yet- but thankfully DH has a huge guillotine in his office that we use to have the spines cut off.

There is an office/printer store that does binding, so they probably do it- just miles from us though.
