My oldest is in ninth grade. I am thinking of getting him in an online class. Does anyone have any suggestion in which direction to look? I just want like a class or two so that he has experience on teh computer and taking classes online. Thanks!
Mine are all younger but I've heard of several: Keystone National High School Northstar Academy (a friend uses this one and likes it) SOS (not necessarily online but computer based) Many of the universities have high school programs (some with online class): University of MO- Columbia, University of Indiana Univeristy of North Dakota And a bunch of others that I can't think of at the moment Rhonda C.
I don't have personal experience with it yet, but The Potters School offers courses in a wide variety of subjects. I do love the Apologia science curriculum it offers. Sorry, I can't post the link yet.
The Potter School doesn't have accreditation I don't think (if that's important...isn't for me, but is for some). I've pondered them for Apologia in the future as well. Steve, one of the teachers, was active on HS Spot for a while. We're using the elementary Apologia at home now....love it! Rhonda
Yep. That's why I mentioned not necessarily online (should have added that it could be though)...good catch TeacherMom.
There is also Kaplan High School. They are regionally accredited by SACS and nationally accredited by CITA. Also, if your son wants to continue to take online courses in college, Kaplan University has a scholarship available for Kaplan High School students who want to get their degree online. You can also go online and pull up Ed anywhere, Keystone National Academy, Progress Academy, and Citizens High School to name a few.
Don't know if your son is interested in foreign languages but I do know that most (if not all) states require at least 2 consectutive yrs for graduation. Rosetta Stone is computer-based and offer some sort of special for home-schoolers. They have a large selection from Spanish to more exotic stuff. There may be other foreign language courses online, too. It might help you "kill two birds with one stone" so to speak. Good luck!
