It's been a while since I've posted anything, just been lurking. But now I need some opinions. We've been trying for over a year and now, finally, I'm a week late! Home tests have changed so much since my dd, 4 years ago, so I'm not sure which one is the most accurate.
    Any thoughts?

    TIA
    Paula

I don't have any info for you but I definately will be praying for you. We have a girl and a boy. We have lost four at different stages. It takes us about two years to get pregnant so I get so excited when I hear things like this. I hope that you are and I will be praying. Let us know as soon as you know for sure.

From my limited experience, they are all (generic included) about the same. What I did in the past was purchase the double box and take both tests for added measure. Also, they all seem to say that they can detect a pregnancy when you are a day late for your period. Keep in mind that your hormone level doubles daily right now if you are pregnant so you could take one test now and if it is negative take another one in a week?????? Just a thought. Best wishes from me, too! If you've been looking at the other thread about hs'ing with a newborn you'll know there are several of us waiting to rejoice with you!!! Keep us posted!

I would go with what Brooke stated. You won't receive a false positive but you could have a false negative. I think most test come with two in a box now so get one of those. I have used several over the years and they have all been accurate.

    Let us know!

Yep, yep, yep. :D If you are a week late any store bought test will tell ya. Most run around $6-$12 at Target or Wal-mart. I think I used ept with both my kids but...even a store brand will work. It's your HCG (?) levels that rise and that the test measure. You also don't have to wait for the first urine of the day.)

The big question is...do you feel pregnant? Have you been stressed lately or just cool, calm & collective? I was feeling yucky with my first and my second one I pretty much knew when I was a day late that I was.

Fingers crossed for you!!!! :D :D :D If not this time  then next time, right?:)

I used Eckerds generic brand. I bought the two pack and used it after only being two days late. Then used the second test a week later. I have a 10 month old daughter. My first two children are 10 and 9 and I just had the doctor run a test but now any over the counter works fine. Best wishes !!! JMB

Any store bought pregnancy test will give you the results - I think they're all about the same these days - some claim to be able to tell even before you're due to 'start' (???). Anyway, whatever one you choose to use make sure you test first thing in the morning - that's when the HCG level is the most concentrated.

I have had one false positive in the past (and did I ever feel the typical pregnancy things - but it was stress related) at which point the doctor ordered a urine specimen to be taken to the lab at the hospital for accuracy.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone! I ended up getting one called Answer. It was the least expensive one! Well, we decided to go ahead and use one test this afternoon (after a much needed nap) and it was positive! We are going to do the other test in the morning to make sure, though.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the good wishes. We had just about given up on ever having another child, so this is the best possible news.

    Thanks again
    Paula

Thanks everybody! The second test was a definite positive also. I go tomorrow to have it confirmed by my midwife. Figured out my approximate due date, though. Feb. 10, 2005. I'm so excited! :)
We haven't told dd yet, but I know she'll be thrilled. She's been asking for a baby sister or brother (or better yet, both:eek: ) for ages!:D

    Thanks again

Do twins run in your family? How old is your daughter again? This is going to be so fun for you all.

Congrats on having a midwife, too! I was fortunate enough to have a midwife practicing under my physician, so insurance covered her services, too. I still ended up with 2 c-sections, but the pregnancy and labor were wonderful since I saw her for everything....never saw the doc until they needed to open me up.

    CONGRATS PAULA!!!!

We have a ground hog b-day in this house. :D They like things the same.

Our Dr. office changed their policy that to make that first 6 week appt you don't have to do a blood test. The over counter ones are that accurate. ;)

    Congrats!

For those of you still practicing...keep practicing. :D

Thanks everyone! And congratulations to everyone else expecting a precious bundle!

My revised due date is 2-7-05. My dd is thrilled!:D She keeps going around saying "Mommy has a baby in there", pointing at her tummy.;) It's just too cute. We are just so excited & happy.

BTW, no, twins don't run in either family. My dd got it in her head that she wants both a baby sister & brother. No amount of trying to convince her that it wasn't likely would work. But today she said no twins, so I guess she's let it go. Actually, I wouldn't mind twins, but my dh is another matter!:D

Thanks again everyone and best wishes to all
    Paula
