My editor at the Washington Time Communities did an interview with someone at GWR last week and the GWR guy mentioned to her that they would be sending out a letter of commendation although they've never mentioned anything at all to me. I'm hoping this is the letter they told my editor about!

"It is clear that your journey from Alaska to Argentina was one driven by dedication and perseverance, and for that you should be proud. We hope that you both continue to strive for excellence in all of your achievements and that your passion for achieving the extraordinary never wanes."

    -Guinness World Records

No official world record, but recognition of a job well done. The boys are happy with it! (And so am I!)

At least they sent something. I don't think I will be buying any more world record books however. I have always enjoyed them and even used one for a children's sermon at church once. Don't think that I care for them so much now after seeing how they treated your boys.

It's still a world's record...isn't there someone else who will register it as such? What about this site? http://www.worldrecordsacademy.org/index.html
Or maybe there is a keeper of cycling world records or athletic achievements. I still don't understand how they can close a category; if they just arbitrarily close categories it cheapens their records by limiting competition for those records. I'm glad the boys are satisfied though; what an adventure...record or no record!

You are right - they still have the world record even if it isn't recognized by GWR. I wish it was, but there is nothing we can do about it.

The boys are happy with the letter they got - at least GWR commended them for a job well done.

Glad they got some form of recognition (and the boys are happy enough to accept it). That shows some great character that you raised them with. They have the applause of all of the homeschool spot as well as the many others I saw blogging and signing the petition. Maybe that can be a sort of companion you keep with the letter, all of the people rooting for them and celebrating their success.

I would love to somehow print out all the letters and blog posts people wrote to keep with the letter - that would be so incredibly cool! I do have the links in a blog post, but many of them will go dead in time. It's been such a privilege to read what people have written!

You could Do a copy and paste of each blog post, it won't be as pretty, but at least you'll have the post and you could note on each one who wrote it and such. You could print the Google petition, and anything else just copy and paste :) At least it give them a paper record of their achievement!
