Well our first "official" day went pretty well. The boys really enjoyed circle time and we learned the "Good Morning Song" and "Five Little Monkeys". We talked about the letter A and what sound it makes and then we talked about what the weather was like today. They knew that the grey clouds in the sky meant rain and it was facinating to see how much my kids "know" already:D:D:D

We colored pictures of alligators and then had free time to draw. They really like making circles and I have two new pics for my fridge:D

We had dance time and then they crashed for nap all by themselves(this never happens) so I was really excited about that:D:D:D

I don't think they are ready for a schedule yet, they are so curious about everything and I let them take the lead which worked out well for us.

I can't wait to get my painting supplies this week so that we can dive into colors and painting!!!!

This afternoon I plan to have them help me make soft pretzels in the shape of the letter A and that will be afternoon snack. Things are looking really encouraging and I feel so good about making the decision to teach them at home.

I wonder how long this "pink cloud" will last? ......LOL :D:D:D

    I am glad

dark-blue :) We are almost done with school this year. We will finish Friday.:) I hope you enjoy homeschooling as much I do. Some days I would give it up but most days are wonderful.

    Wonderful Heather!!!!

My guy loved the felt board with the story charaters that I made. A piece of paper (whatever on it) laminated and then with a little bit of velcro on the back works like a charm.)

Congrats on the good start. We started our first day again (we keep starting and stop for various reasons, but I'm not concerned since they are only 4 and 5)

You mentioned making pretzels. How do you do it? I would like to try it with my kids. Do you have a recipe?

    Thanks,
    Mariann

    Sure Mariann, here ya go:

    Homemade Pretzels

    You will need:

    1 bowl
    2 packets of dry yeast
    1 ½ cups warm water
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    4 cups flour
    waxed paper
    1 cookie sheet
    coarse salt (pretzel salt)
    1 egg, beaten

    Here's what you do:

    1. Mix yeast and water in a bowl
    2. Add sugar and table salt
    3. Add Flour. Mix
    4. Put the dough on some waxed paper on a table and knead it until it's smooth.
    5. Cut off pieces and make them into shapes you like. Don't make them too thick or they'll be doughy. Try not to make them to thin or they'll be too brittle.
    6. Place them on a cookie sheet
    7. Brush pretzels with a beaten egg and then sprinkle them with coarse salt. Cover all the top of the pretzel with egg.
    8. Bake them at 425 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
    9. Eat them!

Or, you can do what I do .....

Instead of taking the time to make homemade pretzels (a treat for us) would be to buy some pretzel dough already made in your freezer section. I actually got some breadstick dough in the "biscuit area" and it worked great. My kids love soft breadsticks so this was a good choice for us. The kids formed them into letters and they came out beautiful. Just another option if you don't have time to do the homemade pretzels.

    Missy,
I like how you think. ;) Buy it already made!!!!! :D

I just wish those Yoplait yogurt drinks weren't so expensive. They are yummy and nice to have in the frig. Yes we do make our own *milk shakes* (yogurt, milk, fruit, wheat germ) but...it's nice to have it already to drink without breaking out the blender. :)

    Speaking of Yoplait yogurt....

If you haven't tried them, the yogurt whips are really good. They are very light and fluffy. I have bought them since they first came out and the kids love them. We started putting the key lime pie ones in little mini graham cracker crusts and adding a little whipped cream to the top. Sprinkle a little green sugar sprinkles on top and you're a gourmet cook, lol! The kids really liked these little pies...well, I love them too. I just had one last night for my midnight snack, hee, hee! The point is that the pies are easy enough for little kids to make themselves!:)

    Another great idea

That is another great idea. I'll have to keep it in mind since I am planning to open a daycare in August/September. I can always use snack ideas.

    Thanks
