So it's Shrove Tuesday and yeah, I know my husband is atheist and I'm confused but heck, it means pancakes right? So I want to explain the Christian tradition to my kids sinc it's part of their heritage AND I want ot make pancakes tonight. The explaining part I've got. Milk, I don't have. Here's the important part...Can I just substitute water for the milk? I really have to get some last minute packing done for the move and am also way to lazt to change from sweat pants to jeans for the trip to the store. I also just learned Shrove Tuesday isn't a big deal in the US so here's the Wiki link if anyone's curious.
I'm sure you could use water instead but I'm also sure you will most likely notice....Are you doing thinner pancakes (like german or crepes?) or the big fluffy kind most of us are used to? I ask because I'm thinking that with the thinner version you can fill them with fruit or cinnamon and sugar, drizzle with honey, etc. and it might cover up the flavor if it isn't quite right. I'm from good ole' polish stock and our big thing is Paczki (poonch-key or poontz-key) They are outrageous! Not to mention about 1200 calories apiece if you get one made in a true polish bakery!! If anyone hasn't had one before, I highly recommend trying them...they are like big custard or fruit (prune or date) filled doughnuts but with twice the fat added for twice the flavor! We can't get real ones around here so I don't bother. Sorry, I got off track there. I think I went into a Homer Simpson state and now must wipe the drool off my chin!
I have to admit - I went and got the milk. I wouldn't have but I got a parcel card in the mail and couldn't wait to run to the post office (which is near the corner store). And boy, that post of mine was a ramble, eh? I can't help it. We move in 3 days. I'm crazy excited.
