We just had a provincial election at the end of September and my oldest son was able to vote for the first time (wow, do I feel old). He asked me who he should vote for and I told him that it wasn't a decision I could make for him. I encouraged him to learn about each of the candidates who was aiming for the "top seat" and to consider how each of them would impact his future needs. In the end, he made his own decision not influenced by any parental pressures.
Oh. My. Word. Someone somewhere finally got it right. So is there a way to start instituting this here in the US or do we all have to move to Australia?
I do think that spiritual issues are much more important than political ones, and I hope that my children's decisions, political and otherwise, will be rooted in Biblical wisdom. That being said, I love politics. I really could be considered a political junkie, so I'm pretty sure that I don't keep it "balanced". The kids and I do discuss politics a lot, and I do my best to explain why I support the candidates that I support, as well as what the Bible has to say about various issues. I pray that they will grow in wisdom, and make the best decisions possible, not leaning too heavily or trusting candidates or any one political party to carry out the work of God here on earth. Ultimately, God appoints our rulers, we need to make the best decisions possible, and make a point of praying for those rulers.
....I think I'll move to Australia. If it's good enough for Alexander, it's good enough for me!
