I have a kindergartener and a preschooler. We will be doing basic exercises like stretching and things like that. I also invested in some cones and a tunnel for our own outdoor obstacle course and a 6 ft parachute so that we can do some fun parachute activities inside or out. I also plan on introducing simple calesthenics and some simple running games both inside and out. Hope that helps.

Rachael and Phillip does soccer, Faythe does dance. We swim a lot in the summer plus try to go once a month all year round, try to get out hiking once a month, and our family is bike riding together on Friday mornings during the summer.

My kids have a trampoline they play on all the time, as well as bike riding. My dd is in dance and my son take tennis lessons in the fall and winter 2 days a week. If they really get to where they need more activity, we have a treadmill they walk/run on when they can't be outside. They like to compete on it...meaning, if one runs 5 minutes the other will run 6 minutes, and see how far they can go.

Since I am now the "Sunday School Coordinator" at my church, I'm expected to attend staff meetings on Tuesday mornings. The indoor pool is about two blocks from the church, and opens at 11:00 on the days we have staff meetings. Always before, it's such a pain because the pool really is quite a way from us. Now, we can go every week after staff meetings! I'll give the kids independent work to do during the meetings, and tell them that if they finish it, we'll go swimming!

Hey, Wannabe! My DSS attended a Christian school quite a while back as a 6th grader. His teacher, who was living with DSS's uncle at the time and a friend of the family, had a group of rough and tumble boys. He was also a black belt. So one day, he was showing his moves to the boys, and got a little too "hands on". Michael came home with a gigantic bruise in the middle of his chest! We still give the teacher a hard time about his "discipline" methods, lol!

Welcome, BTW! I'm Jackie, with three kids in central Ohio!

We used to do karate until we moved and it's too far away. Anything nearby is too expensive now. The other karate was through the YMCA, and the lady was absolutely great---tiny but mighty! :)

We did swimming lessons, also at the Y, but when we moved, we couldn't find anything nearby either! So then we did gymnastics for awhile, and homeschool baseball.

My oldest is 15, and has his own exercise routine with sit-ups and push-ups, and he an my 12-yo ds play soccer. My 9-yo dd was taking gymnastics until recently. We've been so busy this summer, that we haven't kept up with much of anything. Now we're getting back into the swing of things, will start slowly back into schoolwork in a week or two, and are looking into swimming lessons.

However, the exercise our children get going out to play is more than many ps children get, with cuts in programs they often take our PE and recess! Then they drug the kids cuz they have too much energy! That doesn't make sense to me! Let them get exercise, and they'll do better sitting in a classroom!

Whoa, where'd that come from?! Sorry, it just came out. :) I think it's good for kids to exercise daily, but I don't think a set program is required.

Deena- I think that was Kevin's problem entirely. He wasn't ADHD, he just was never given an outlet to burn off all that 'boy'. The proof would be how he gave up his medicine in May 04 and hasn't had a symptom since. Jeannie is always in at least two physically active classes and she's never a problem.

James Dobson said the same thing, I just don't remember where I read it- boys need to burn off their energy through things like sports, etc.

Back to p.e.- I'm putting Jeannie in a h.s. gym class at the Y. They give progress reports and all that. If there's more than one she'll be in all we can get.

There are so many things you can do. Take them for a nature hike around your area. walk the dogs. Do outside chores if you live on a farm. Mine two girls play alot in the homeschool group we have park days. Then they are things at the Y.

Too funny! Our sensei says his father (a master) never spanked him - with his hands. He used round kicks to the bottom. Sensei said he usually straightened up pretty quickly.

    Thanks for the welcome too!

When I first started homeschooling I felt the need to have lessons for PE. Silly, since PE isn't even a required subject here for homeschoolers. Anyway, I bought lots of exercise and dance videos, we did lots of music and mov't activities, and regular exercising (situps, leg lifts, etc). I also bought lots of equipment for the kids to explore and use like balls of all kinds, frisbees, jumpropes, hoppy balls, golf stuff, basketball hoops, racketball stuff, parachutes, skates, scooters, etc. I liked just having that stuff available for free play and then I could use it if I wanted to plan a lesson around the equipment.

Now, I don't worry about plans. I just let them exercise for our PE. They use all that equipment I talked about plus ride bikes. DD likes to do mountain biking and acrobatics classes. Also, dh is teaching both kids to golf. We also get exercise through swimming , skiing, playing on our playground and such. Unless you really have to do specific lesson plans for PE then I wouldn't waste time worrying about it as long as they get enough exercise.
