I've finalized the plans for the upcoming year for ds. So, here it is:
Math - We're using Mastering Mathematics. It's a mastery program, so doesn't have grade levels, just covers 1st-6th grad level Math. He'll continue from we leave off this year. He'll do 1 lesson & flashcards daily, games 2 days a week, and online games/practice 2 days a week.
Language Arts - He'll finish off the ETC series for review and Spelling & Handwriting practice. We have quiet reading time for 30 min each day, when he reads to himself. I read to him for about an hour a day. He'll continue playing on Starfall and other fun reading sites. He'll be doing a vocab program that I'm creating.
Logic - Primarily Logic (Logic workbook) 2 days a week, logic puzzles from various Logic books 3 days a week.
Latin - Songschool Latin 1 chap a week
    Science - Magic School Bus based; Going Green - approx 5 wks, 12-20 activities/experiments; World of Germs - approx 5 wks, 12-20 activities/experiments; Human Body - approx 10 wks, 25-35 activities/experiments; Insects & Spiders - approx 10 wks, 15-25 activities/experiments
Social Studies - History - Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, approx 12 wks each, 15-25 activities/projects each, timeline; Geography - map skills
Art - In addition to arts & crafts projects related to our Science & History studies, he'll also experiment with various types of art & artistic media.
Music - The main focus will be on Classical composers & their works.
I'm thinking about turning the dining room into a museum at the end of each topic in Science & History, so he can showcase his work for family & friends (dd really enjoyed it when she got to do that).

    So, What do you think?

That sounds amazing! I like the idea of displaying the work in the dinning room! My nephew would love that idea! I think I might borrow it!

He'll be in 1st grade. So, fun & hands-on is fairly important. He loves The Magic School Bus, so I thought having Science based on that would be fun. He's also really into ancient civilizations right now, which is great because I want to cover history chronologically.
When dd studied the Middle Ages, we turned the dining room into a museum. She got to display all her projects, her timeline, maps, etc. Then, she lead tours through her museum, played the tour guide, explained all the exhibits, etc. She loved it. It was a really fun way for her to show what she learned.

I have a rough plan through high school for both kids. That makes finalizing plans for the year quick & easy. This is a good thing since I still need to finish creating some of the materials for this next year. I'm creating Notebooking pages for ds's History topics and Notebooking pages & Lab Sheets for his Science. I'm also creating the Vocab programs for both kids.
The problem right now is convincing the kids we need to wait to start the next year. Ds practically begged to start the next year now. I would let him take his break now (I got some fun stuff for their breaks this year, too), but then they would be on different schedules & that would be more difficult. So, I'm adding some stuff on to ds's current year to keep him busy until dd finishes her work.

I am wondering about your History plan, it looks great!
I spoke with my dh and we are going to work together to get different videos and do the plan I wrote on my other thread for 8-9th, We plan to use videos from netflix and library , our library has a ton of tourism videos in so I was thinking some we can use those, the travel agents can help us a bit too, and maybe do a display per country? showing then and now pictures would be fun for ds too...
    what ages are yours again?
I too have a basic outline of what I want to teach but 8-9th history is up in air cause one year they dont have history in my county. so it should be fun to play wiht geography and history attached..

Well, this plan is for ds, who's 6. My dd will be 12 in about a week. By the end of 5th grade, she had covered pre-history - modern times. This year (6th grade) & next year, our focus is on wars. She chose to write a book on each war she studies, though next year I'm only having her write books on 2 of the wars she's going to study. 8th grade will be her 1st year of high school History. For high school History, I'm letting her choose what to study instead of doing a basic overview like the ps. She's decided on: a 1 yr, in-depth, comparative study of Ancient Civilizations; a yr studying the Middle Ages & Renaissance; a 1 yr study of the cultures of the American Indian tribes; and 1 yr studying American History (she gets to choose the specific parts of American History to study). She's always been interested in History, and right now her career aspirations lean toward Archaeology. I figure, as long as she is doing high school level History, it doesn't really matter what the courses are. So, letting her interests lead makes sense to me on this.
We've always try to add Geography to our History studies, but dd is not big on Geography & always tries to avoid that part. Your ideas sound great! Maybe also make a dish or whole meal for each country/time period you cover?
Your son's into architecture, right? Maybe you could focus the year on the history of architecture & architects - learning what syles & aspects are/were common for certain places & people.
