The tickets are non-transferrable, so she can't give them to anyone else. Otherwise she would!

Any update, Deena? Are things holding about the same, or is there some improvement?

Kris, I guess my sis looked into that, and they said nothing could be done or refunded. :(

Prairie, Thankyou for asking how my mom is now! I just talked to my parents on the phone today. She's doing well. She has a dr. appointment on Monday morning. She's still drinking the Ensure High Protein drinks---3 a day as the one dr. suggested would be good for her. She's eating some, and went to my aunt's house for lunch today. That was her first time out in a long time. She gets tired easily, but says she's feeling pretty good, even after going out like that today! So we're very happy with that!

Our next project, as long as my mom is holding her own still, will be to get my dad some new hearing aids. He had trouble with his ears almost all his life, and now they're in bad shape! His hearing aids are old and broken. Actually, he lost one, so he only has one, and it's broken. He can hardly hear a thing! No insurance will cover new ones for him, and they're wanting $2,000 for them! Whew! But my brother and sister and I are trying to put our heads together and find some way to pay for them.

Overall things are going fairly well, and my dad is thrilled! He honestly thought he'd be losing her soon, and hadn't been able to resign himself to that. I'm glad, especially for him, that she's so much better! In September they'll be married for 54 years!

Yeah, My mom and I are like that. She and I are a lot alike.

I was at a huge summer campmeeting type thing near here for our church, and this guy came up to me and said, "You've GOT to be related to (My mom's name)! " I said, "That's my mom." He said, "You look so much like her! I went to highschool with her, and when I saw you, I had to do a double-take!" :D Both my brother and sister look like my dad's side of the family. I guess that me being the baby, and being so much like her, we just bonded.

So Gma, I am certainly taking that advice! They are irreplaceable, and I will miss my mom terribly when the time does come for her to go!

Prairie, Yeah, 54 years! My dh and I say we're working to catch up and pass them cuz we want to be together forever too! :) Dh's parents are younger. They've been married for ONLY 47 years! The year my dh and I got married in March, was his grandparents 50th Anniversary in June! So we have some great examples to follow! :D (We also have some bad ones, but we won't go there!)

I told my mom she needs to try and beat my dad's mom---who was more of a mom to my mom than her own mom was! She was 91 when she died! :)

Deena, your summer camp story reminds me of the time my beloved husband and I attended a disaster relief meeting for a large area of churches. As we sat down, I glanced across the aisle and thought I recognized a family friend (from years ago) of my parents' generation, so I smiled great big and gave a little wave.

Almost immediately the awful realization hit me that it couldn't be he, because my parents had mentioned some time previously that the particular friend I was thinking of had passed away.

I sat throughout the meeting in mortification that I had been very "forward" with a total stranger. Afterwards I wanted to run to the door, but, no! My beloved struck up a conversation with that very man and talked and talked while I kept as far away as possible. Well, when almost everyone else had left, and I had nowhere else to hide, my beloved called me over to introduce me to the brother of his uncle's wife!

With a red face, I started to apologize when he interrupted and said how pleased he was that I knew who he was. "Of course," he said, "I knew right away who you were! You have to be 'Sally's' daughter! But tell, me, how did you know who I was?"

'Seems like everyone who knew her loved her. My mom is now 92, and I'm hoping to drive down to the rest home where she is living on Tuesday to give her another perm.

Thanks, Deena, for letting me share on your thread. It seemed OK, seeings as we're talking about moms and all.

Deena, if your dads insurance wouldn't cover the hearing aids. go look for state help they might help you. I don't know what kind of money or insurance your parent have but you can look in on that. Or call the hearing aide store tel them what's going on with your dad and they might have a payment plan or give you a discount.

Deena, thanks so much for the update. I hope things keep getting better for you all. It's hard when your mom is down. Moms are never suppose to go down.

Hearing Exchange has ideas for people who need hearing aids and their insurance won't pay for them. I think you can find it at HearingExchange.com.

My parents have no money coming in, basically. My dad is a Vet, so he's gotten a lot of help from them: He had two heart attacks and a triple bypass, knee and back surgeries---all covered because he is a Vet. BUT, for some reason they won't cover this! Not sure why!

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! I'm going to look up the Hearing Exchange, Beth, thanks!

    No problem TMom. :)

Kris, My mom is staying steady, so that's good! She is stilil able to drink and keep down the Ensure High Protein (Soy based) drinks, which is a life-saver---maybe LITERALLY a life-saver! PTL! She eats little bits of things, but not a whole lot.

They have a dr. that's ordering the right meds and getting appointments for tests and scans and things for her, so things are moving forward. I am just so happy with how things are workingout! She's never going to be completely well.....unless God chooses to do an absolute miracle! But she's alive and doing well, in comparison to when we went there only a couple of weeks ago!

My sister went ahead and went on the cruise. We all, including my parents, told her she needed to go and spend the time with her hubby, ds, and youngest dd (17yo). My sis's middle child has decided she is mad at her. She and her husband told her she was horrible and selfish for going on the cruise when her mom is so sick! My poor sis! But my mom assured her that she wanted my sis to go! I hope they are enjoying their trip and are able to relax!

Wow, that is amazing, re your neice and her husband, I hope they get real over it all now.
We all say lots of things when we are worried about a loved one, but your mom would feel awful if her health ruined a wonderful trip for your sis, so I will pray your niece gets that realization soon.

Also, did you find anything or anyone that will help you get some hearing aids for your daddy.
I hope your mama is holding the same.

Thanks! About my dad: I came across a story in the newest Guideposts Magazine about a guy who grants wishes for senior citizens. I'm afraid ours is too expensive of a request, but I went to the website and put in my request anyway, saying we'd help as much as we could, but couldn't come up with that much on our own! It'll be interesting to see if they respond, and if they do, I wonder what they'll say? I figured it's worth a try---otherwise I'd always wonder what would've happened!

My mom is doing well still, AND---SHE'S GAINED 8 POUNDS! So life is looking up for her! :D
