    He's a hormonal 12 year old!

He's been having panic attacks and freak outs lately. I believe they are hormone related - and oddly enough, they seem to coincide with my daughter's and my "cycle".

I'm growing concerned though. He had one last night where his blood pressure was through the roof!!! We were able to rationalize and talk with him to calm down, but it took a while. And he woke up today and was better, but then he accidentally tripped my younger daughter causing her to break a bowl, and he ramped right back up to where he was last night. It only took like 5 mins to get him back to calm again, though...so it didn't last as long.

He is an extremely sensitive and compassionate child. I want to know how to help him. I'm not sure it's time to go to professionals yet, as he's not being violent or anything.

    Thank you!!!!

Talk to your family doctor. Ask your son how he feels about doing some professional investigation. There's no reason to wait until something bad happens....you can simply start looking into things to see if there's something that can be done to help him feel better. It must be exhausting to live inside emotions that get that big. (that said, big emotions aren't that uncommon for that age)

I have a feeling that it does warrant some professional attention. I doubt you'd be talking about it on the board and asking for prayers if you weren't inwardly pretty concerned for him.

Ultimately, what could it hurt to have an evaluation? If you don't like or agree with what the therapist says....you can still follow your own intuition or get another opinion. They might even say...he's just a normal 12 year old who happens to run a little high-strung. Would put your mind at rest.

    Good luck!

I will pray for him, plus I would talk to him yourself and see if there is something triggering these things. I never have accepted the "norm" view of hormonal kids, I think sometimes they get over anxious because something is bothering them and they need to learn how to cope.
it could be a girl he likes ( yes 12 is that age for sure) and he could be worried about something else.. talk it out with him and give him some clues to calm himself when he first starts getting that anxious feeling. breathing techniques etc.

I'll pray for him too, Krista. Yes, seek professional help with this one - could be nothing, could be something.
